The label on this one says "Synthesized quad". This might be one of their earliest quad releases.
Interesting. I will have to come back to it tomorrow (i'm in a neo-soul groove at the moment). I recollect listening to the album a LOT in the early 80's. I seem to recollect listening a lot through headphones (apartment dwelling and unsympathetic wife--first wife), and--again--my recollection is i was listening to a mono recording. I was heavily self-medicated throughout the 80s, though . . . and the 90s . . . and the 00s . . . . I'll try and listen again tomorrow; i have a feeling ima be plowing through lots of albums that i will think will sound cool through the Surround Master, instead!
Wait: before hitting POST REPLY, i did a quick Google search (for what that is worth!). Here is something i found from Mark Anderson:

JOHN COLTRANE -
Concert in Japan. Impulse [2 LP] AS-9246/2 (QS)
{This recording is from a mono radio broadcast. The only mention of

quadraphonic is on the sleeve that states it can be played mono, stereo and
on quadraphonic equipment and the label mentions synthesized quad. No
mention of QS encoded. Playback reveals straight Mono}

I'm not on Facebook, but i am on Cloud 9! Putting this CD in, i do get the red LED to blink! Hoo boy, i've waited three years to hear this on the SM v.2. @J. PUPSTER recommended it on a thread and it was one of the main reasons i sought out the SM. Glad i went upstairs and unearthed it from a stack of CDs!

Okay, last post for awhile. I don't wanna take over a thread in my enthusiasm! I do want to write that one afternoon, browsing through the stacks at one of the Shinjuku Disk Unions, the clerk behind the counter was spinning this CD. I was browsing for reggae titles, and i found myself dancing as i made my way through the alphabet! When i took my stack up to the cash register, i asked for this disk too! It's wonderful lo-fi fun through the SM v.2! wOw! Life-changer!

What? You've been to Tokyo recently?
Since i was browsing reggae, that would have been the summer of 2014–i listened almost exclusively to reggae the year i got sober! But funny you should mention it–just last night We booked tickets for two weeks this coming June! My wife really misses her family, and i did suggest a day trip or two to Shinjuku! 素晴らしい

You should consider meeting up with QQ member @Lute who lives in Tokyo. I bet the two of you could just ravage the record stores!

Don't worry about taking over this thread Clement; I'm curious what stuff you sling out of your collection on here. Just keep in mind that Jon's OP is about the "amazing" stuff; problem is, almost everything sounds wonderful through the SMs. It's so good in fact, that I believe every kid graduating from High School should receive one, so they can get inoculated into the wonders of music "LIS" style!

Here's an SQ recommendation that I always enjoyed, but just try and buy the best condition you can on this one-
*edit, although not a Stereo source per-say, so not a legit rep. for this thread I guess- oops!

Lo fi?????????????

Lo fi?????????????
The recordings from Cabo Verde from the late 60s and early 70s are what i was referencing. The SM makes even the decidedly lower fidelity sources (compared to the professional recordings i am used to hearing from the same time period) sound absolutely wonderful! I certainly didn't mean to suggest the SM is lo-fi! It's going to be my favo(u)rite thing for quite some time to come! Do you know the release i was referencing? The SM takes it to, well, outer space!

Ah, bless you......I get a bit sensitive on the phrase "Low fi"!!!!!!!!!

Not familiar with that recording

The Future is HERE! whOa! Trigger Alert! This one may cause flashbacks even if you have NEVER ingested hallucinogens! Definitely fits the criterion for this thread: AMAZING! The Future Sound of London – Lifeforms

Never heard of 'em or the album. But your post got my curiosity up so I sampled this:

This is the right album? It's a 2 CD?? Lifeforms is track 6, right?

Normally ambient style music just gets me impatient. But this has a slightly higher energy level. And just checking out on PC speakers stereo, yes, I can tell already it will be a mind f**k on the Surround Master. I will give a complete listen after din din.
