Interesting. I will have to come back to it tomorrow (i'm in a neo-soul groove at the moment). I recollect listening to the album a LOT in the early 80's. I seem to recollect listening a lot through headphones (apartment dwelling and unsympathetic wife--first wife), and--again--my recollection is i was listening to a mono recording. I was heavily self-medicated throughout the 80s, though . . . and the 90s . . . and the 00s . . . . I'll try and listen again tomorrow; i have a feeling ima be plowing through lots of albums that i will think will sound cool through the Surround Master, instead!The label on this one says "Synthesized quad". This might be one of their earliest quad releases.
Wait: before hitting POST REPLY, i did a quick Google search (for what that is worth!). Here is something i found from Mark Anderson:
JOHN COLTRANE -
Concert in Japan. Impulse [2 LP] AS-9246/2 (QS)
{This recording is from a mono radio broadcast. The only mention of
quadraphonic is on the sleeve that states it can be played mono, stereo and
on quadraphonic equipment and the label mentions synthesized quad. No
mention of QS encoded. Playback reveals straight Mono}
