Been listening to some Luther lately, so i thought i'd give The Best of Luther Vandross . . . The Best of Love a spin through the ol' Surround Master. MOST EXCELLENT! Always something powerful and discrete coming through the rears: background vocals, piano, synths, percussion (love those chimes), etc. Luther's vocals are strong up front and the Surround Master is wrapping me in the warmth of these arrangements. By the time this compilation came out (1989), Vandross had already released six albums, which contain more than enough tracks to pack this double disc full, so this really is the very best. Can't believe it took me so long to crank some Luther Vandross through the magical Surround Master!

There's someone trying to claw their way out of your DVD player!

OMG! This sounds phenomenal! With SMv3

Here's another one that was released in Quad back in '74. This remastered reissue sounds PHENOMENAL through the Surround Master! Ima just type away as track one plays: "Blue Lights"–so AWESOME! Franklin's bass is locked up front with the drums. Trumpet comes from rear right and sax from rear left. Funky rhythm guitar is also in the rear. Great electric piano solo rear right.
Oo! Next up is a Chick Corea composition, "What Was." Now i'm hearing drums in the rears . . . were they back here in track one and i missed them when concentrating on the horns?! The horns are behind me again. Great trumpet solo from Oscar Brashear rear right! The electric piano comps are washing over me seemingly from all over! The sax solo (Charles Owens) is rear left again. Cymbals are definitely ringing out behind me! Man, this tune is SMOKIN'! Franklin's bass drives this tune from the front! Great electric piano solo behind!!
Okay, i won't go track by track; you get the idea. And if you want to get something else, get a Surround Master and play Black Jazz Records releases through it! MAGNIFICENT! All HAIL @chucky3042 !

While the cover says stereo, I wouldn't be surprised if they were still using the QS-encoded Ovation, master tapes.

Here's one you may not have heard before - NZ/OZ musician Jenny Morris. I had a thing for her in 1991, and this is the first time I've revisited the track on Involve. Surprising and most likely deliberate surround mixing in this one.
