Well don't shoot the messenger, I was just quoting what that John Cale historian had to say on his webpage! I had to go back to see what you were referring to and I have to say it was nice be reminded that I've contributed a few semi-intelligent things here over the years, though I have to confess I don't remember writing all of it - I feel a bit like that scene in the film Old School when Will Ferrell reels off a perfect answer and then snaps out of his trance when he's finished and says "what happened? I blacked out". 😂

I know that it wasn't your own quote but those type of statements are far too common and totally untrue. I just wish that the pundits would get the story straight!

Quad was simply killed by a greedy industry that expected to become rich overnight! Looking back the time frame was ever so short! Bring out a great idea and start working out the kinks in real time over a few short years then (suddenly) DONE!

How long has Atmos been out? It still does not dominate the market but keeps going in large part due to the home theatre market.
What if Dolby had pulled the plug after only a few short years?

The new documentary on Sly Stone (by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, streaming on Hulu) is so good that I gotta cc my exchange with @J. PUPSTER over here on the D-V thread.

SLY LIVES! (Aka the Burden of Black Genius) on February 13 on Hulu and Disney+ (Questlove)

This would be an opportune moment for Dutton to unveil a new pop-rock batch containing Small Talk and High On You, no?

Great piece in Wednesday's Times running down 15+ notable tracks from Sly's career, pre- and post- Family Stone (with YouTube links). Here's a "gift" link to the article.

P.S.: according to a story on NPR, "Next, Questlove plans to work on a documentary about the band Earth, Wind & Fire." Clearly, he's gonna need to consult with Mike Dutton about EW&F's quad years....
