Anyone played the speaker setup / channel check portion of the disc? Sounds like someone used their little kids to do the channel announcements. Pretty funny!

Although I've owned it on DVD-A for years, I never played that part of the disc. I'll have to do that.

This is not to be confused with the earlier Telarc 1812 "Digital" LP (later CD) release, also by Kunzel/Cincinnati. Even though I had a great system when that one was new, I was sloshed and with a friend. My 12" woofers had no chance against a CLIPPED 500w RMS power amp when those cannons fired. Perhaps I was asking it to do over 2000 watts! Get a bushel basket and fade back for a pass, 'cause that rarefaction will shoot the speaker cone across the room! Thank God the speakers were still under warranty.

I have the SACD version. There were two SACD versions with different recordings.

Yes, the one on the right is what blew my woofers, albeit the LP version. The "silver ones" of a variety of titles are all early digital recordings, most of which the LP's predate their CD versions, and CD's themselves by a couple years. There are some wonderful recordings in that series with some great performances. Besides 1812, I greatly enjoyed Holst/Handel/Bach, Firebird, and Carmina Burana. I've owned those on LP, CD & SACD, among other titles. Sections of Holst also provide some woofer/sub workouts.

There is a more recent 5.1 SACD of Carmina Burana on Telarc, which I also own:

I think the one on the right is the SACD transfer of the same disc that blew Linda's woofers!? :yikes

IMHO, most of the earlier ones were superior performances, at least for the 1812 and the Carmina Burana. The newer ones have better sound and are available in mch as well as stereo. Still, I am more likely to play the older ones on occasion.
