Hopefully it will be a wider release like the Animals Atmos BD so those of us across the pond don’t have to pay over $50 for a single optical disc!
If you live in the UK, each SDE release now costs a minimum of £30.00 (£25.00 for the disc + £5.00 Royal Mail P&P), which is currently around $38.00 US. How much is the postage to the US of A?

Maybe some of us should get together and do a disc buying swap!

It's not that much more:

In terms of most recent orders, I paid CAD$55 for Keane Atmos BD from SDE but only CAD$35.88 for Alanis' Jagged Little Pill Atmos BD from the Warner CA store and $37.74 for the Floyd Animals Atmos BD from Amazon CA...so just over 1.5x more for the UK exclusives.

So curious about the thought process behind commissioning someone to do a mix of your album and then just... not releasing it. And for it to happen twice, for the same album! Is it really necessary to wait five years from completion to release something? Especially in this day where it could be uploaded immediately to a streaming service in Atmos.
Roland is notoriously finicky, and often suffers from both option anxiety and analysis paralysis.

as I have said before, I'm perfectly fine waiting a little while longer for new Atmos Blu-Rays of albums like "Seeds of Love" and "Songs from the Big Chair" in exchange for getting 5.1 and Atmos mixes of albums like "Elemental" and "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending" first

:)
“Happy Ending” would be AMAZING with a Wilson surround mix.

I feel sorry for all of those who bought the 5.1 version

"I've recently completed a spatial audio mix of one of my favourite albums Tears For Fears, 'The Seeds of Love', to be made available later this year. Here I am in 2021 talking about what to me is one of the most immersive, ambitious and beautifully produced pop records of all time."

Please don't feel sorry. I have the Seeds of Love box set with the 5.1 mix Blu-Ray and knowing the Tipping Point inside out the Atmos mix was pretty lackluster in Atmos, remixed my none other than Steven Wilson as a last minute decision.

I might not necessarily purchase the Atmos mix unless it is a $24 priced standalone Blu-Ray.

You have to realize, with a new trend comes abuse too. Everybody is blowing air into an ever growing Atmos bubble.

I'm not an Atmos guy anyway, so I doubt I'd buy a new Atmos mix, but Seeds of Love is such a rich and complex mix, that it seems a perfect candidate for Atmos to me.

I know this thread is focused on the atmos mix but what stereo mixes would we expect to see for the sde edition?

I expect we will get a new instrumental mix and possibly the sw stereo mix as well?

If not then I hope the original stereo mix is unmastered like the other albums (correct me if I'm wrong about that) as the remaster is pretty compressed.

SW has been creating a new stereo mix for everything he's worked on (I'm not aware of any exceptions...? ** ). Whether they include prior stereo or surround mixes is more of a guess.

** Funny no sooner than hitting submit that I remembered Tipping Point only had SW's atmos/surround mix. I'll clarify this statement in saying that the older recordings SW has mixed into surround were also given a new SW stereo mix. I think because Tipping Point was a new release they did not want a second stereo mix done(?).

He did create one for this as part of his workflow however he didn't want to include it as he says that the stereo mix is perfect as it is and that there's no point trying to do better than it.

He was going to do the same for the hurting sde but following a delay and popular demand he decided to to add it on with mixed feelings.

Following the praise the hurting remix received I expect sw would feel more confident including the stereo remix as a bonus.

Wilson purposely didn’t include his stereo mix in the last box set of Seeds of Love as he didn’t believe it improved upon the original stereo mix. His stereo mixes are part of his work process to get to his surround mixes. He always makes a new stereo mix. Whether it is included on the releases or not is a different matter.

My guess is he’d use his 5.1 mix as his starting point for a new Atmos mix rather than recreating a new stereo mix, yet again, from scratch.

Doesn't he use 5.1 as a base for atmos mixes anyway?

I agree the remaster isn't great, and to add insult to injury, it's just a minimally changed version of the 1999 remaster (digitally identical once you turn the old one down by 0.3 dB), despite Paul saying he saw Andy Walter actually working on the new remaster. So who knows what happened there. But at least the blu-ray from the box set did include an unchanged copy of the original stereo mix as it was originally released, as well, i.e. the Bob Ludwig mastering.

As for a new standalone Blu-Ray audio, it's going to be an easier sell if Steven allows them to include his new stereo mix, following the model set by The Hurting, which I guess will also include a full instrumental mix of the album.

Maybe the 1999 remaster got put in accidentally instead of the 2015 remaster? Unfortunately that kinda thing can happen surprisingly often.

As for the Bob Ludwig mastering while it isn't overblown like the remaster I kinda feel it lacks power, clarity and is kinda thin sounding in some areas.

Btw out of interest does sw read the forums by any chance?
