Last night caught Femi Kuti and Angelique Kidjo at Wolf Trap, Vienna VA, with their respective super hot bands. Angelique and crew performed most of Talking Heads Remain in Light interspersed with her own tunes--amazing!

Polyrhythmic Afro-Beat would make for amazing surround material! Someone please!!

Tickets for Richard Thompson Electric Trio US dates going on sale this morning...corresponding with release of a new album. There were some ticket pre-sales yesterday although the announcements were bungled so there may still be good seats to be had!

Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin at Ronnie Scott's in London this week. Wonderful gig in a really small jazz club. They really like playing there apparently, 7 performances in 5 days, and Lee R started by saying they feel it's like coming home. And the interest for us at QQ; the final piece played was 'Lay It Down' from Six String Theory. Highly recommend seeing these guys if they come anywhere near.

Electric Light Orchestra - just saw em last night and Wow! Outstanding performance complete with 70's era laser light show, huge backdrop graphics, sounded better than when they were in 197? When they were here last. The show was a tad short lasting about an hour and a half with 1 encore but he is 70 now so understood. Still highly recommended. Also

saw Frankie Valli and his new 4 seasons 2 weeks ago in an Atlantic City casino. Incredible! He played for 2+ hours with hit after hit. He Sounds like he did in 1969. Hard to believe he is 84. Also highly recommended.

Two incredibly different but equally wonderful concert experiences this month.

On the left, Jeff Lynne's ELO at Madison Square Garden this week. A major treat to hear the music of my youth live.

In the middle, two weeks ago, Patrick Moraz giving a private performance for me and some friends, playing my piano in my living room. Patrick's playing is still breathtakingly brilliant. (The neighbors must've been wondering how I got so good all of a sudden, LOL.) He is such a sweet, kind and generous person. After he finished, he hung out for several hours after and later insisted that we play together (photo on the right.) I was a deer caught in the headlights but it was an amazing experience.

Wow, that is amazing! He is one of my very favorite keyboard artists.

I have to ask: Did your discussion ever find its way to surround sound? The Story of i is easily one of the top 3 on my surround remix wish list... What a wonderful record.

This was the second time that I met Patrick. When I met his last year I asked him if he had heard the 5.1 mix of Relayer. He immediately started singing Steven Wilson's praises and said that he loved it. I asked if he would ever consider having his own records mixed for surround. He said that he would love to but that such a project would be cost prohibitive. There were other people waiting to talk to him at the time so I didn't press the matter further.

This time though, I had a significant amount of time with him so I thought it would be worth it to discuss it more. I showed him the Bruford box and he seemed interested. He had me show it to my fiend who works with him (she's the reason why I was able to arrange for the performance in my home.) I think the Bruford box made an impression on him so maybe somewhere down the road something could happen. I plan on having further conversations with my friend to see if I can encourage the project. Fingers crossed!

*And yes, I know the Bruford box had its problems, but I thought it would be good to show him since the two of them probably have a similar level of commercial appeal. (i.e., if Bruford can do it, he should be able to as well.)

New Order this evening at the Anthem in DC. Well, 3/4 of New Order, as there is still no Peter Hook. Strong sold-out performance in a venue where the acoustics were disappointing. Several tracks from the most recent record, which is a few years old now, but all the favorites that you would hope to hear, too.

Just saw Tull on Wed, great setlist, band was super tight and someone needs to tell Ian that he can't sing anymore. His voice was thin and I think he only hit 5 notes correctly all night. Perhaps shows every three days isn't enough downtime for his voice.

Sadly I'd say his 'live' voice has gone, the last time I saw him was at Beautiful Days Festival in 2012 - and I'm an huge fan of JT/IA and think I've just about every album!

Jon Anderson has kept his voice, at least he still had it when I saw ARW a couple or so years ago.

Just got back from the Camel gig in Bath. Incredible, the band were storming, and you could see they were really enjoying themselves. If they're playing near you go and see them, it is a world tour they're doing! They are definitely a band whose albums should be mixed into 5.1
