Question time....

Which ones of us are seriously interested in purchasing all of the numbered 'SDE Exclusive Surround Series' Blu-ray audio discs? Regardless of what they are!

I know I am. Who's with me?
I’m generally not a collector, there’s lots of stuff I wouldn’t touch; but I’m making an exception for this SDE series because it’s done nearly perfectly as far as physical surround these days. Heck I even get a thrill out of opening them up with that little rip cord!

Now if it’s something like Lou Reed's MMM; it might need to stay sealed :D

I’ve bought them all so far including stuff that 80s me would be shocked to know that 2023 me is buying. So I think I’m in no matter what.

However, I’ve gotta wonder if there would be something that would cause me to put the brakes on. Maybe an Atmos release of GWAR? I don’t know. The deeper you go with having them all, the more difficult it will be to say no to one of them.

At a certain point for me it becomes the battle between avoiding a title I know I won’t like and a mild case of OCD that would be bothered by a gap in numbering. I tend to think OCD will win the day.

Most of us, if not all, praise Paul for his stellar work on this series. But his most brilliant move (and most vicious) was creating the numbered slipcovers. Very, very wise.

I've always wanted Mountain's Nantucket's Sleighride, but having listened to it in quad I'm not so sure?

I think "wall of sound" stuff like Don't Look Around & Nantucket Sleighride should probably remain stereo...?...

...when you "dismantle the wall", and separate out its component parts, it just seems to lose its effect?

I was disappointed with the Motorhead DVD-A I bought for Ace of Spades, but I think it would probably loose something if everything was discreet...?...

...now that I have it however (the Motorhead DVD-A) I'm going to hang on to it, just for the bump in sound quality, although I'm not sure about the weird echoey reverb on the channels when it plays in multichannel...?...it makes it feel a bit "proggy"...?...although maybe that was the idea, considering the market that DVD-A etc. seem to serve...?...

...just not sure that you're going to sway the prog-rock crowd towards Motorhead by adding a little reverb?

Maybe I'm wrong and it's been there all the time, just subsumed into the mix.

Same seems to be true with some of the Pixies 5.1 stuff; once you pull it apart it seems to lose something.

I could totally handle some B-52's in surround.
