Bass? SOLD! ... I just ordered one.

The whole disc is pretty impressive for bass all round, that tracks just one of the "highlights", depending on how much you like your low end.

Are you running your Fronts Large/Full range?

I usually have mine Large these days as they're more for music than movies (and they're Bi-amped with tweeters getting one set of amplification and the woofers another.. more than ample in my tiny place that I never have the sub on.. but I had to set them to Small the last time I played this disc, the bass was ridiculous.. I guess that's cool..! Those neighbours have gone now anyway and I'll be moving soon so Phook it..!! :p )

So this disc has wonderful fidelity, and the quad mix is nice and not dated ping-pong style!

Mine should arrive any minute, I'm excited. The only thing is I've been going clean and sober for the last 3 weeks and had planned to stay that way for a while. I like my music listening to be not clean nor dry headed. Oh well there are other times I can listen in different ways later.

Once this arrives I'll put my order in for Billy Joel and the Doors AF quads, or else wait and get them two with Sly and Loggins & Messina quad releases in same package. It really depends on if Importcds wants my business and stocks those new ones from release date with no delays. There was no good reason for them not to get the Jeff Beck in until last week.

I'm familiar with that road (and many of the chuckholes in it). Good luck to you, whatever your ultimate goal.

-- Jim

My goal is to stay clean & sober for a few weeks or a few months only just for balance. I like to do this now and again just because it makes me appreciate things everything more. Makes me appreciate my favorite import beers and favorite bubba kush and surround discs too.

Got that dreaded double post after waiting 5 minutes for site to respond, I hit reply again.

Anyway, being good and clear headed (sober for three months, or three weeks) makes being high on pharmacological grade THC all the more powerful. Carlsberg beer goes really well with surround discs as well. It's like Heineken without that bitter sting. It smooth and goes down pure and clean. I get no hangovers after a six of this brew.

Not sure if you want someone to reach out or not but then why are you telling us this? So I'm guessing you want a comment.

All those substances you mention in your post - I had to give up all those (and hard liquor too) 33 years ago because of a bipolar condition that I have.

Whatever your mental state, substance abuse is never good. I'm not preaching - I'm just saying what I've learned for myself the hard way. For 15 years I thought I could ride the wave but I hit a brick wall in 1982. When I recovered from that I never touched anything again. Now I'm having the best time ever. Do what you gotta do; but don't try to kid yourself. I'm not sure if you are hurting or not but all the best; hope everything is fine.

How's the 5.1 mix on this Silverback beast, Brettle?

Short answer... It's a winner! :upthumb

The surround mix is not wildly aggressive like some 4.0 mixes. It has more of a wrap-around feel, yet there are some discrete parts in the rear and center channels. The sound quality or fidelity is excellent. And with a whole bunch of nice mellow jams, this is a pleasure to listen to.

Both the standard DVD-A and Dualdisc are available at very reasonable prices...

No. Not looking for or crying out for help at all. I got it all under control. I'm just in the middle of my nice and clear period and must stick to it for now. I do this all the time, have clean and sober periods and then I enjoy my music other times with beers and some pot. I think that if I can have a fridge with beers and stash and not touch it for months then I likely do not have a problem at all. Plus Iike to work out at the gym heavily for periods of time, and like that feeling and look, but I burn out on that and take breaks from it. Music too, I'll leave the stereo off for two weeks solid just to enjoy it more, make it something special. Yeah it does not look like I am a substance abuser if I go months without. But thanks for good words and advice.

Ian Cooke - Antiquasauria has just arrived with the postman. I don't know what to do first, listen to it, or fill in the colouring book ! An excellent looking package.

And I've just had an e-mail telling me that my Rattle That Lock blu ray has just shipped

Well, I was gonna report that Kono - Mondo Head had come in, but, I am saddened to report that it turned out to be a CD (HDCD, whatever that is)...
I haaate it when that happens.
Thanks, Amazon (erroneous listing - will be refunded).

Try CDJapan, I've a Mondo Head SACD on order with them they have said 3-4 weeks to get one, it may be they can't get one, but they are very good. Www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/SIGP-12

BTW HDCD are 20-bit HiDef CDs, standard16bits with the additional 4bits encoded into the CDText stream, which the player combines I've got quite a few of the Joni Mitchel ones which are very good.

20-bit, you say? I seem to recall a version of Astral Weeks (or Tupelo Honey?) that I bought was 20-bit.
I'll have to see if the Oppo says its HDCD.
So, do they sound any better?
