Well I'm not sure when this happened but my Windows 11 computer no longer displayed under the 'Network' location: -

View attachment 113508

And although the 'Synology_NAS' is displayed, it's very slow at being identified on my 'Private' network even with 'Discovery' switched 'On'. By contrast my old Windows 10 laptop displays both very quickly...

Does anybody know the obvious things to investigate this issue?
I had the same issue after a Windows 10 update, I thought it was to do with SMB, but it wasn't, I had to get a friend who runs an IT company to help.

Its to do with Windows Security & Network Credentials (apparently MS say they don't know what is safe on a network so they wipe out old settings! ), I had to re-enter my Admin passwords for the NAS in Windows, then it worked.

Thanks for the info... Sounds too difficult for me to sort out without creating more problems!
I just had to redo it for one of my NAS not the others, weird!

Open File Explorer and click on the Network icon, then when it appears click on the computer icon of your NAS, it should then come up with a Windows Security/Credentials pop-up for the NAS enter your NAS password there (might have to enter the Admin name as well, depends)

Thinking about it some more... This doesn't explain why my laptop isn't visible under the 'Network' icon. It's very confusing!

Well, getting the drobo apart wasn't all that hard. Screws holding the feet also hold the cover. Tore the warranty sticker, so it is voided (ehhhh, what?).

Found a battery with a label of Joules Miles Co., Ltd, which is a Taiwanese company, but they don't seem to supply batteries any more. The sticker also says "Model: Bumblebee B" which seems to be a Honda motorcycle or ORV of some kind. Dead end there.

It also says the Cell (Looks like two) is a Panasonic DBR 18650 CH, which seems to be available. Three wires on the battery: Black, red and green. Red to black is +3.7VDC, green to black is 0. More digging, but maybe that's an issue. The label also says 2160mah (I know what that means), and a ship date of 02-05-2013. Maybe it's supposed to die in 12 years.

In the past I had a couple of PC cards suddenly not allow somethings to run, it was the battery that held up the Real Time Clock on the PC card which had eventually run flat, stuck on a new one, reset the RTC to the correct date/time and it was all OK.

Any photos?

On a quick search, here is one of the best videos I found for Windows settings to check when other devices aren't seen on your local network. There is more that can be done if these settings don't fix the problem: sometimes resetting the adapter on each pc, then going through the settings again will fix the problem until another Windows Update screws it up again:

I can hardly remember a time when all devices on the network ALWAYS showed up in Win 7, 10, 11.
Even when I have mapped network locations that work, the other device still may not show up in my network.

Also there are Windows security settings that get borked sometimes, but I won't go into that here.

Windows network/LAN problems, going a little deeper if my previous post does not fix things.
This is off the internet, although I made these changes myself:

Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Local Policies, Security Options
Double click on Microsoft Network Client: Digitally sign communications (always)
Double click on Microsoft Network Client: Digitally sign communications (if server agrees)
Set both of these to "Disabled"
Click on OK.

Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Network, Lanman Workstation
Double click on "Enable Insecure Guest Logons"
Set this to "Enabled"
Click on OK.

On the two pc's in my audio room, I also have identical login and username.

Nice one, thanks. I'm off to the dentist now so I'll go through everything mentioned when I get back :)

I hope some of that helps, Lord knows I've had my share of Windows Networking problems.
Changing these security options, make sure your Network is set to "Private" in windows....should be anyhow but just saying.

Windows 11 24H2 upgrade broke a lot of shared folder networking.
Oh! That explains what just happened to me, I guess. I let W11 install that update (which seemed to take an abnormally long time) and when it finally finished and rebooted, NONE of the mapped drives were available due to "bad password" or something equally impossible.

Fortunately, all I had to do to get them back was reboot again.

Success... After following the link that @jamoke posted and doing the following I'm now able to see my laptop on my network: -

Bonkers!

This is so odd. I've never shared any drives or folders on my ASUS laptop or any other computer I've had. The computer icon has always been visible...
Yes. When MS screws us, they sometimes do a pretty good job of it.
You would think two pc's plugged into the same router via an ethernet cable could see each other. I've been fighting this stuff since Win 7.
Then one day you boot up and even the mapped drive(s)/folders is not available. Reboot both pc's and then.....maybe.
