Scheiner's mixes in my opinion are super-hot and way too discrete.
I assume this is referring to Porcupine Tree's In Absentia and Deadwing? The vast majority of his work does not exhibit the 'loudness war' sound, those are definitely outliers in that regard. In fact - based on how sonically-pristine most of his other surround mixes are (highlights for me include America Homecoming, Beck Sea Change, and the recently-released Madeleine Peyroux Let's Walk), I'd be willing to bet that the original files he turned in for mastering sounded better than what was actually released - but of course there's no way to prove that.
 
I thought the Crossroads Festival mixes Scheiner did were some of the loudest I'd ever heard on a music DVD. But it's been a while.

First impressions on the Dolby Atmos:

Where you expected "atmospheric sounds" you really get it!

However, where I expected crystalline ringing tones on "And You and I" it seemed a bit more reverbed, and muddied. But that's just me on initial hearing.

So far only a couple of stereo tracks from the Super Deluxe Edition are available on Apple Music - a live track and a "new" Steven Wilson edit. Neither one is particularly memorable, but Siberian Khatru (live) does feature quite a bit of mellotron.

The only problem I have with your review is the final sentence: "Looking to the future, It will be interesting to see if the next two records ... are earmarked next for the Dolby Atmos treatment."

I think it should be reworded to read: "Looking to the future, it will now be compulsory that the next two records ... are earmarked for the Dolby Atmos treatment. A failure to do so should go before the ICJ in The Hague as a "crime against music".
