I just noticed Amazon US has charged me a minimum 35 bucks this month for something I couldn't place, and wasn't in recent transactions -- then realized it was this FRAGILE boxset!!! Two more weeks until the release date :LB. Maybe we'll get it early?

An unboxing video for the curious, from the man who's still not curious enough about surround sound to buy a surround system:

Yes - Fragile (2024 unboxing)
Yes to many of us, the purpose of buying those sets is for the surround, but for many casual listeners, the surround sound is not so important. Someone should buy him the system and make him discover a new world.:51QQ

Generally I find Barry Robinson's opinions pretty entertaining, but his indifference to surround sound and remixing is a bit hard to take. This frequently comes up in his reviews of deluxe reissues where a 5.1 and/or Atmos mix is included. He seems to be one of the few people that actually looks forward to getting new vinyl in a super deluxe edition and also says that although he respects Steven Wilson, he usually prefers remasters of the original stereo mixes. That means he's spending a fair amount of money on stuff he'll never enjoy or even listen to (just like us  ). It's particularly amusing that he starts his review of the Fragile reissue by describing it as 'packed with a lot of stuff you don't really need' but ends with saying 'it's a wonderful, wonderful set...'.

I know I'll have to get the Atmos mix at somepoint but I'm happy with the 2015 5.1 for now.
When I can get a stand alone product I'll grab it up.
I’m with ya ! I would be happy with the 5.1 (as I am with TYA) but since second hand copies go for close to the same price as the new one, I’ll happily splurge since I no longer own any copies of this iconic record.

ImportCDs just emailed me to say it's now been shipped.
It's a good sign for me when you get your Monday shipping notification from Importcds on a pre-order, it means I should get my shipping notification from them on Wednesday. I'm so looking forward to this. So I woke up this morning hoping you'd get your shipping notification from importcds today

I agree - I was genuinely surprised at the end when he dismissed the ATMOS mix, saying he didn't have a surround system. Essentially, that's the whole purpose of the box, other than to get those of us who no longer focus on records to buy the vinyl.

If he gave them a chance, he would be genuinely excited when he discovers how his favorites sound. For example, yesterday I gave Close to the Edge a careful listen in 5.1, and heard something in the rear middle I'd never noticed before - and I have been listening to that album since the day it was released, over 50 years! Yes, he needs a surround system.
