To allay fears of those who have received no notifications from Rhino post-purchase:

I received my Paranoid today, singly, apart from the other four releases in my order. I have thus far received no communication from Rhino, nor have any tracking numbers been added to my order on the website, though the order status did change from "Ordered" to "In Progress." The tracking number for Paranoid did pop up automatically in my Informed Delivery account through USPS. I was then able to add it manually to my UPS account to track the pre-USPS movement. I have no doubt the remaining three Quadios (plus the other CD I ordered) will be shipped soon, notification or not.

Be patient. Good things come to those who wait.
I also had no communication and they just showed up as well. Which made everything alright. I'll just say that, while it's obvious that Rhino had some issues, my experience with the USPS the last several weeks, makes me think that some of the issues are with them. I'm not going to go into specifics but the USPS ain't what it used to be.

Got my set of 4 today - 3 in one box (Red Octopus, BDB, Nightmares) and Paranoid in a separate box. The 3 in one box all had broken or cracked cases. On BDB and Red Octopus, the bottom left corner was cracked and fell off when I opened the jewel case, on Nightmare there is a diagonal crack across the lid.

It bums me out to buy a premium, limited collectible album, pay of the privilege *and* pay for shipping, only to have the shipping packaging be insufficient to protect the contents from breakage or damage.

Listening to Red Octopus now, it sounds wonderful. My Pioneer VSX-LX505 auto-senses the disc as DTS-HD MSTR 4.0 192kHZ, and play it back as DTS-HD Master Audio 4.1 - it's nice to have the sub accompanying the Quad.

Mine was through UPS Innovations. In case you're wondering what it is ...
"UPS Mail Innovations is a joint venture between UPS and the United States Postal Service (USPS). It is a cost-effective way to send packages and documents around the world. The service combines the reliability of the UPS Ground network with last-mile delivery normally provided by the USPS."

Gene, would it have hurt you or your missus to have invited Vince in for a soft drink? A beer would have been great way back when, but he's a tea-totaler now.

Oh, and he doesn't like to be called Vince. Bet he'll never talk to me because of this. So what, he didn't talk to me before anyway!

But seriously folks, Grace Wing, Martin Buchwald, Papa John and the gang are on the main system now. Nightmares and Billion $$ Vinnie are next. All just showed up! I now have my two fave songs on Q LP, CD and BD. Beginnings SQ (#1) and CD-4 Miracles (#2). Beginnings is already on Quadio x3: Quadio box x2 (CTA & Greatest Chicago 9), and CTA DVD-V.

"Love is a magical world few ever find in a lifetime." Martin Buchwald (Balin) RIP

It is very sad what happened to Marty Balin. He was easily one of rock's best singers. One note and you knew it was him.

Any hope that Rhino could somehow fit 3 discs in a box meant to hold and weigh the same as one vanished when the J. Geils disc arrived moments ago... alone.

He’ll join his brother, Paranoid, by the Bluray player. (Paranoid is amazing in quad. What a joy that disc is.)

Two down, two go. Hoping Rhino knows that as well and doesn’t think this completes my order.

Same boat as you, Blackwood (if it's any consolation). Paranoid arrived Monday; Nightmares today. I haven't had a word--or a shipping notification--about the other two. My Rhino Store order does show that I paid for the bundle, though.

I'm in the same Paranoid/Nightmares boat as most folks here are. I have contacted Rhino, they sent a generic FAQ response back, and I replied that wasn't good enough and demanded more information from them. Furthermore, I believe I have found a phone number to contact Rhino and will try calling on Friday if I do not hear back by then.

I will post any updates here

Please post your thoughts and comments on this new reissue of the classic Jefferson Starship album "Red Octopus".
This new Blu-Ray audio release is part of Rhino Records' Quadio series and marks the first time that the original 1970s Quadraphonic mix has been properly remastered and reissued on a high-res disc format.

I hope I haven't been "Scammed" here. I ordered my bundle the 23rd and haven't seen any ship notice. I contacted Rhino on their website about it and got an auto reply email back, overnight that stated imy request couldn't be processed and to try again at a later date. I looked at the FAQ link and it showed a 7-10 day order processing time ? You've gotta be kidding.... Anyway, hope I see something soon. It scared me to see here that members have gotten theirs already. Really hope that was a Legit site. That's a lot of Cash to try and get reimbursed from my bank if so.... Sorry that I put this in the reviews topic. I don't know any better. Lol.

Thanks. It’s the fact that I know others are going through the same thing that has made this easier to take, along with a hopefully well-founded trust that it will all work out.

Of course, that’s easier to say since I have the one title that is currently listed as unavailable. I feel for the folks who haven’t heard a peep about their Sabbath order and wondering what’s going on.

I think every one of these sounds great. No harshness in the least. Very much analog to my ears, as they should be. J Geils and Sabbath both seem to have vocals a bit low at times, but I'm not hearing that with Starship or Alice. All of them except for maybe Starship for some reason seem to start like a second or two into the first song and I have to press the back button to hear it. I'm not sure why. The only other discs that did a similar thing were the original Rush 5.1 mixes that weren't nearly as impressive as these.

Three of these were records I wouldn't have heard otherwise. I know all the bands, obviously, and a few of the songs, but never had much interest in their collective catalog. J Geils is a fun album. Just crazy stuff, probably fueled by a bit of white powder. Jefferson Starship has some really solid tunes on this album, and quite diverse, probably fueled by a lot of LSD. Alice surprises me. Kind of over-the-top, of course, but musically all over the place, which I appreciate, probably fueled by a lot of everything.

Played all four and they sound pretty good, though I'm not quite in the positively-lovin'-the-Sabbath zone like most here. It's a kick-ass album, as it's always been, but not sure the quad sound quality is any better than the other three. The Alice disc has the most upfront vocals, that's for sure, and it may be the J. Geils which sounds the best to these ears. It's the only album I'd not heard before as well.

In this case, I think the issues are fairly squarely on Rhino's fulfillment company, Gnarlywood. They were clearly wholly unprepared for this set of releases.

As for USPS in general, I think you'll find that their quality of service is highly location-dependent. My post office here in Portland, OR and my regular mail carrier are usually very good. I can't say the same for some of the places my packages have originated from or passed through.

They must not want my money. Not only can I not buy any of these new ones, I can't buy the Doobie Bros. set from that Dig! Website. It just hangs up after clicking on the order button. An hour later, nothing changes.

EQ - Anyone checked these 4 new Quadios to see if they have the upper midrange cut/treble boost like the Doobie Brothers Quadios have?
