The thing I have found I like best about this album (the first time I have ever sat and listened to the entire album in the nearly 53 years it’s been around) is that while it is the Godfather of Heavy Metal it also still has a spaced-out hippy-vibe to it. And this quad mix accentuates that tremendously.
Same here...as you may know, they were on the Vertigo label, which was primarily Progressive Rock...

Maybe someone else can chime in here but I remember people had issues playing the straight 4.0 over HDMI on the Doobies Quadio set and maybe it’s the same issue here.

This is why many quad reissues tend to author the disc as 5.0 with an empty center channel because some decoders have no idea what to do with a 4.0 stream. Just a thought.
It weird- as I thought all 4 discs were done alike and same process...3 of them play fine in surround and 1 doesn't.

I am just getting around to listening to my discs. Yes they were in 2 shipments, yes one of them sat in Fontana. No I didn't mind(or care for that matter) that they were only exclusives on Rhino.com.

Rhino offered us some products that we might not have had a chance at getting any other way. Sure they were Rhino exclusive, and I don't think that $25 a piece was a bad deal, but Rhino did take $5 of each title when ordered as a bundle. I'd rather invest in the program going forward, so sure- I'll take all 4.

Sure- some have had some teething issues in ordering, confirmation and shipment, but I think the message has been heard- lets not kill the goose! If you want them- order them. If you don't feel you are getting value- then don't order them.

Now- on with the Music!
This post sums up my thoughts perfectly.

Help! Back from vacation - and Rhino don't have it available now. Any suggestions on where it is available? Cheers!

If you’re referring to BS, from what I’ve read, more stock is supposed to be coming. It allegedly sold twice as much as first expected, and then, temporarily sold out or became unavailable to buy in a little over a week. All very promising for the Quadio program.

One would imagine that the idea is to release Quadio titles and keep them in stock at least for awhile. A lot of people evidently want the Black Sabbath title, even if they’re not necessarily into surround. And yet, there must be a curiosity factor about what the Quad mix sounds like for such an iconic recording.

Sounds like you’ve got a winner there Old Quad Guy 😋 -thanks for the info (y)

You had me at Italian 👞 Loafers

Only got half of my Quad Whereyaatios bumble; but I did receive notice of that 13 fast buck (Freddie) refund for two separate shipments of Paranoid and J. Geils. So now I’m further confused, as it’s going to be at least one or two more shipments to complete my order. My Starship Miracles and Billion Dollars are still MIA!
I'm in the same boat as you my friend. 2 arrived, both shipped separately, got a $12 + shipping refund & the 2 others are in limbo.
1 title in pristine shape, the other had a cracked case. I do like the individual small cardboard boxes they used.
The bottom line: not going to be all that critical of Rhino. I think it will all eventually work out in the end.

Three of mine have just arrived (no Paranoid yet). No shipping notice, but no customs charges either!! I’m a lucky man!
Snap! and mine was delivered to the house by Royal Mail, although it was shipped via UPS from the US to UK. I have been caught out before now though, as UPS & FedEx often send the VAT & fee bill in the post a few days later. We'll just have to wait and see.

The fee structure that you have to deal with is bizarre

Still awaiting Alice and Jefferson Starship. Also received an email from RHINO that I was additionally charged s/h fees [in error] for the second shipment and they were going to refund me the difference.

Hopefully, when the second batch is ready .... all the bugaboos will be sorted out ensuring smooth sailing ⛵ but it is heartening to know the first batch was sales~wise a great success for RHINO which bodes well for future releases!

Just received an order cancellation notice for B$B what the hell! Ordered these at 2 AM on release day! Sabbath showed up today.
Trying to be a “glass half-full” kind of guy, at least you got an update on your order which is more than some of us can say.

I am sorry that happened to you, though.

Due to differences in the running time between the stereo and quad versions, the Alice Cooper disc is authored differently from the other three. All the tracks are in a 4.0 "container", so the stereo tracks are actually encoded as quadraphonic but with silent rear channels.

It sounds like you've been bitten by the same bug as several others: For a time (hopefully it's not happening any more!) there were chips being installed in equipment that had no clue what to do with a straight quadraphonic signal. The symptoms are exactly what you reported in your other post: Sound only coming from the front speakers.

It would be nice if the disc producers would create their titles as 5.0 or 5.1 since this issue seems to be somewhat widespread, but they don't seem interested (or simply don't understand why it's a problem for some). This is definitely not peculiar to Rhino.

Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is either buy new hardware (!) or use computer tools to extract the audio from the discs and "remix" the 4.0 material into 5.0 or 5.1 with silent center/sub channels.
