Quadraphonic greatest hits compilations would be awesome!!

We've gotten several and they were wonderful. Bread, The Guess Who Vols. 1 & 2, Sly & The Family Stone, etc. Nothing wrong with a killer with no filler.

Only good if you enjoy the “Reader’s Digest” versions of classic novels. Imagine if all we got was Santana’s greatest hits and that was it?

The idea here, based upon past experience, is to keep things going while the getting is good. We’ve seen different labels release a series of Quad titles, and eventually they stop. What would be great is to see as many titles as possible keep coming. So that everyone can get the Quad titles that they want.

Yeah, all it takes is a few wrong choices, albums with too much dull filler, or artists now too far out of vogue and you end up with money losers. And no, I'm afraid everyone is not going to get everything they want. Eventually they do indeed stop.

I'll just point out that if they are GH compilations they have a higher probability of selling better. People who may pass on an album by an artist they aren't that fond of, might just be willing to buy a GH package because "at least they know the songs".
Beyond diehard quad fans on this website, someone who really doesn't care much about surround will be more apt to check one out if it's loaded with a bunch of songs they know.

Wouldn’t mind a GH if it originally came out that way in the Quad era. Carly Simon and Cat Stevens GH were and still are great albums. But I doubt there are many here who would take those over not getting the full album (which puts the album’s “Hits” into context) if given the choice. In the 1970s it was about the WHOLE album from beginning to end, to set the mood and make a complete musical statement. We had more patience back then to sit and listen to something for 40 minutes, all the way through.

In the Quad era, there were plenty of great records for just about everyone’s musical tastes. Unfortunately, they pulled the plug too soon, and it would have been great to have been offered more titles. Quadraphonic albums are in their own way now, historical documents that showcase the possibilities of surround for the first time. I don’t see how anyone learning how to mix in surround for the first time, doesn’t look to see how it was done from the beginning, before mixing into other formats with more speakers.

The mix got pretty poor ratings from the things I've read also.
(I've got the CD-4 but I don't remember how it sounded other than scratchy .)

Foreigner is the one that's worth putting out, it's a pretty engaging mix as far as the A&M quads go.

I dunno , I didn't think it sounded that bad ....mix wise.........CD-4 ,....well u know..


Back to WEA now.....there may still be some best of's , Jethro Tull M U, or a special best of Wea Quads, as some tapes may be sadly damaged .

Apparently for RHINO to embark on such a renewal of their QUADIO program meant that it has been in the works for some time ..... going through all their pretty extensive back catalogue of titles to determine which are in primo usuable condition to meet the criteria for their usual HIGH standards. And the decision not to attempt to extract a pseudo center channel and release as is is seriously commendable. Unlike some record companies, WEA have been stalwart stewards of their masters properly labeling them and storing them in vaults not privy to 'mishaps!'

WHATEVER they release....I WILL BUY! IMO, the missing link in desirable physical QUAD media since companies like Audio Fidelity and Dutton Vocalion initiated their SURROUND SACD reissues! The price is certainly right for a PURE Audio BD~A in 192/24 resolution in a super jewel audio case and I wish RHINO and the WEA group the best of luck and thank them profusely for finally making these golden nuggets available again in 21st century technology!

Generally an advance buzz is desirable - a wildfire spreading through the online boards and forums about something cool (or absolutely essential) arriving before the ship date. This is especially true when the item is not being sold through local stores and other online sites.

So my optimistic guess is the titles are announced between May 22 - 26th. And available to ship two weeks later about June 7th, or 8th.

So this is not too long away from now if I’m anywhere near the ballpark.
