she's hot tonight! woah momma! (etc..) :p

There's an SACD of Chiara Mastroianni & Benjamin Biolay I got on Amazon.fr where the vocals are so hard panned in the centre that if you switch the centre off altogether you get nothing but instrumentals..!!!

"Spooooooooky, Dah-lings..!!"

:wave

OOH LA LA..!!!!!!

merci beaucoup pour la critique merveilleux..!! Je pense que c'est la meilleure chose que j'ai lu en cette forum -- jamais jamais (dodger!)..!!! :p

If I read your posts correctly then we both live in a surround vacuum in the sense that we're the only people we know IRL that dig surround enough to own a set up and pursue these exquisite nuggets of discrete joy. With that in mind QQ and one other are the only places I can really speak my mind about this glorious pursuit. Sharing is caring right? :smokin

Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire De Melody Nelson BDA continued

Having compared the DTS-Master Audio 5.1 against the PCM I'd say it too sounds great but on my set up it is noticeably brighter throughout the mids and occasionally it carries some mild distortion in the high frequencies that certainly won't distract. I'd go as far as saying I'm only hearing it because I'm trying to.

Thank you for the wonderful review ! I played this non stop yesterday. Played through every option. I had a sense of distortion, but wasn't sure if it was more to do with my equipment, turning the volume up too high ?
It really is a fantastic disc, I think ahead of it's time in '71. Certainly, an essential purchase !!

( as I said previously, I think the 5.1 DTS HD MA may be a tad bright ? )

Distortion?! dat-stortion..!!

get some better speakers darling, for gawd's sake! :p ;)

inquadwetrust has Tannoy Mercury's (F3 floorstanders according to their QQ profile) and is hearing amazing things on this Gainsbourg disc!

get some of the little Mercury Custom F1's (or whatever they're called now!? Tannoy V1 I think?) you will be gobsmacked at how good they are for the money..!!!!!

I am my dear, as soon as I've saved my pennies !! ( I think it's just the bass player, twanging his string too hard !! ?? )
Have you got a Serge, on the way ?

That darn G-string eh! Twang! :p

i was just about to checkout at FNAC and then I found a load of old OOP DVD-A's & SACDs so I've bought those instead (for now). I'll get Serge next time I get the urge - and some more cash!

hehe.. ;) there are a few goodies on there if you go digging around on their site.. but not just there, they're everywhere! times must be hard in profiteersville because some of these old discs (DVDA things especially) are so cheap relative to what they were going for not that long ago..

you say patate, I say banane..!

I know its totally crazy but I gave up having to really like artists years ago where these Hi-Rez & surround things are concerned!

my poor little system would be starved of goodies to play on it if I'd resisted buying albums by Oasis, R.E.M., King Crimson, 3 Doors Down, Bon Jovi, Rob Thomas, Meat Loaf, Celine Dion, James Taylor, etc...

..the list of artists I'd never bought their albums (or very much of) before on LP/CD that I got just for 5.1/Hi-Rez is absolutely huge..!!!! :p

I know what you mean. I think probably *most* of my 5.1 discs were bought out of desperation. Obviously I don't hate them, but I do wish there were more of the artists I really love. But what if this BD promotion is really successful, and soon there are thousands of hi-res 5.1 titles available, too many to buy? That might be even worse than not enough @:

haha!! very true!! what a dilemma!!

may I refer you to the vocal stylings of Mr.Luther Vandross...

"...never too much, never too much, never too much..."

:wave

oh and I think we can safely say this blu-ray audio trial has done well enough, as culabula was saying these discs were flying out of the Fnac in Limoges (y)

i expect the next wave to include some more modern rock & pop (maybe one or two might be from those Nirvana, GnR, Abba, U2, Queen, Dire Straits etc.. titles that have been rumoured) plus a load more French stuff..

..I reckon UMe will try to squeeze the last drops out of the Aznavour back-catalogue on this format now they own EMI and will have seen how well these have sold, so will go on to re-issue the old Aznavour SACDs on blu-ray (I hope so anyway! save me from sleepless nights looking for the damned SACDs for sensible money!! even better if they include the old 5.1, for what they're worth.).
