I wish it was Feist's Reminder album instead. I'm just waiting around for the release dates here in the US. I usually buy from Acoustic Sounds but they haven't said when exactly these items will ship. I'm just excited more high quality audio items are coming out. It probably won't go anywhere just like with DVD-A and SACD but you never know.

if any QQ-ers have ordered titles from the 2nd batch (Amy Winehouse, Beck, Exile on Main St, Nirvana, Marvin Gaye, Nick Drake, Lionel Richie, Crime Of The Century..) and have successfully had their discs shipped today could they please post here?

I only ask as Amazon.de had an October 4th release date for these titles and are now showing all out of stock with delays ranging anywhere between 11-14 days and 1-3 weeks.

this is either amazing news in as much as the discs came into stock today as planned but have all sold immediately on pre-order and are awaiting dispatch... or the discs have been delayed. the latter is the much more likely scenario but who knows..!? lack of communication/co-ordination/organization on these releases on Universal's part has been staggering so far, so anything goes I guess!?

Watch this space! (and you 32 lurkers who haven't signed up to QQ yet!) ;)

I hear you, Adam - placed my pre-order for Beck, Queen & Drake and Eric (blubox) at A.de ten days ago, no word yet. Estimated delivery date: "Freitag 29. November - Montag 16. Dezember"...

as regards the "Les Miserables" HFPA 5.1 BDA, here's some initial thoughts..

Lead vocals are full in the centre channel with bleed into front L&R.. I guess anyone wishing to hear Russell Crowe or Hugh Jackman's "unique" vocals (in all fairness recorded "live" on the film's soundstage set, hence their "warts and all" nature) may wish to isolate the centre channel to fully experience the actors' distinct takes on all the familiar numbers.

rears are fulsome, you will not be listening out for them to see if they're in use, though they're often duplicating the fronts with a little extra sound or two thrown in here and there in a largely "double stereo plus" mix. the final battle scene has more aggressive use of the rears, as the liner notes suggest.

it's an engaging and immersive mix but don't expect extreme vintage Quad-like separation/discreteness.

fidelity is excellent, as is almost a given with these HFPA's.

mix options are 2.0 PCM, 5.1 PCM and DTS HD MA 5.1. disc defaults to 2.0 PCM on auto-startup.

menu presentation and navigation is identical to the Rolling Stones "Grr..!" BDA, so if you have that already you know what to expect.

i'm going to give the Les Mis BDA a further listen tomorrow and report back with more thoughts. I have not played the PCM stereo as of yet.

I would of preferred this an instrumental album. The vocals are horrific. Acted not sung.

Got to say that Amazon's legendary undercutting policy doesn't seem to be working on the HFPA releases. At Amazon.co.uk Legend is £11.27 and Grrrr is £12, but all the rest have now increased to £19 (and they have no sign of most of the Oct 21st releases that are listed at the Universal HFPA store). Universal are charging £17 and £2 postage per disc, so it makes no odds where you buy them financially. It's going to be an expensive hobby.

the great HFPA balls up continues...@:

FWIW, my Amazon UK pre-orders of "batch 1" titles I didn't get from FNAC in May have been repeatedly pushed back but are still at the £13 price point back when I pre-O'd them in the Summer.

Amazon Germany still saying my pre-orders with them (Amy, Queen, Marvin) "will be shipping soon", the others (Nick Drake, Lionel R, Beck) showing as "not yet shipped" but the listings themselves are showing a variety of old bollocks such as "In Stock in 11-14 days", "In Stock in 2-3 weeks" and "In Stock 24th October".

there's a German marketplace seller who is purporting to have all of batches 1 & 2 in stock, so I've ordered Supertramp Crime from them, they say it's been shipped already.. we shall jolly well see! ;)

oh and here's another email from Amazon Italy just in, to really add to the confusion.. Link to follow!

For those complaining / fussing about what gets released where and when, bear in mind that NO US
release dates have been announced nor is there any sign that they'll even be released here! :(
I have 7 discs so far all ordered from FNAC or Amazon UK (except the Les Mis which, if you have the gumption... can be had by calling B&O :) )

Bob Marley
Les Miserables
Velvet Underground
Derek & The Dominoes
Supertramp - Breakfast
Stevie Wonder - Songs
Rolling Stones - Grrr

I ordered:

Beck
Rolling Stones - Exile
Supertramp - Crime

Waiting to see how long it takes to get those.

-B

The Marley, Velvet & Layla were from FNAC and have FLAC D/L cards.
Stevie, Grrr, Supertramp were from Amazon.uk and have nothing.
Les Mis has nothing.

I ordered mine through Music Direct. I called there 800 number and ordered 4 of the blu ray discs. The Stones exile, Supertramp crime(already have breakfast in blu ray from the UK) marley legend and Lionel Ritchie cant slow down. The nice thing even tho the are $29.99 apiece is that if your purchase is over $99 - then you get free shipping. The Fed Ex charge was $10 bucks a piece if you buy them one by one. So I bite the bullet and got all 4 . I'll get nick drake later. They are supposed to be out Tuesday , lets hope they arrive and the release date doesnt get pushed back.

Basic gist of extra info from what I can gather is that it's being sent by courier (the dreaded Hermes UK! at least they can't screw up too badly on some Blu-ray Discs.. but their reputation precedes them!) and that it fulfils part of my order (which was for 6 BDA's) at no extra shipping cost.
