It's in stock at my local store. I've not got into Nick Drake, so wont buy it myself. But I'll check the cover for mention of 5.1.

Actually have two of his DVD-Audio discs but only listened to each once. Didnt jump out and bite me. Maybe I should try again...

What are the DVD-A's of Nick Drake? I thought there was only one Surround SACD of his? You don't mean Nick Cave by any chance? Or BECK?

LOVE the photo btw! What High Fidelity Blu Ray's did they have in that store, just out of interest?

If you see Exile On Main Street or Crime Of The Century, snap 'em up! :D

Those two DVD-As are Nick Cave! (Looks like I do need to get back to work!)

No Exile (May have been sold out though) or Crime (not announced yet for AU - I have it on order at AmazonUK)

From memory there was
Queen - ANATO
Nirvana - Nevermind & In Utero
Bob Marley - Legend
Supertramp - BIA
Beck - Seachange
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Stevie Wonder
Derek & Dom. - Layla
Marvin Gaye
Lionel Ritchie
A couple other plus 5 or so classical

Other interesting thing the store have a 20% off all blu-rays and CDs this week but NOT on these discs as they are 'Pure Audio' not blu-ray apparently.

thank you for the info :)

did you pick up any of the Pure Audio discs while you were there? there's about 5 there I'd recommend (Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Supertramp, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley).

Just ordered two more HFPA BD-A this morning:

1.) Tree Of Life - Yodelice
2.) Metals - Feist

..from Amazon France.

They say they have them in stock (@ £16 ea.) vee shall seeeee... ;)

Wow. What a waste. Crappy mastering that does not sound better than CDs.

Thanks for the tips. Didn't buy any. (I've had Bob Marley in my AmazonUK basket for a while to include in my next order). Not in any hurry. Lots of nice new non-HFPA 5.1 releases to get into right now!

Correct. I just checked. The back cover says DVD-Audio but it refers to tracks that contain no video, but it doesn't have a DVD-A folder structure.

But no content in the AUDIO_TS folder right? which means its a plain old DVD.

great news! (y) Please do let us know what you think of it when you have the time to listen to it? :)

Amazon Germany have just emailed to say my Beck Sea Change Blu-ray Audio is in the mail now!

I was very interested to see which surround format. I have no time in the next days till monday, but this I must look.

DTS HD Master 24bit/192khz
5.1 PCM 24bit/192khz

The Queen A Night At The Opera has both 5.1 LPCM and 5.1 DTS HD MA, both 24/96. I'm struggling to understand the presence of both since they are both lossless surely either one is sufficient? The stereo is in both 2.0 LPCM and 2.0 DTS HD MA also (again both 24/96).

Exile On Main Street still hasn't arrived, so I just checked Universal's site, and now it's the 25th, another two weeks later. When that comes and goes, will they announce that it has gone back another two weeks? And a notification email when they delay releases wouldn't go amiss.

I'd like to support this new format but the lack of 5.1 mixes and poor delivery of discs is making it an uphill struggle.

I can't say what it's all about (seems like padding to me!) but I have noticed that the Dolby True 2.0 streams on a number of these HFPA's are seemingly handled in a different way compared to the PCM 2.0 (ordinarily the Dolby is "louder" than the PCM).. that possibly says as much about my setup as anything but a contributor over @SHF.tv suggested Dolby's "Dialog Normalization" may be flagging up on some of these HFPA discs, hence the apparent volume boost.

It's a shame Blu Ray doesn't support MLP like DVD-A, it seems wastefull of space to use LPCM.

(Dolby True HD is actually MLP encoding, but with a load of metadata added including dialogue normalisation. Not that I've ever figured out why anyone would want dialnorm, I have a volume control and I can turn it up or down.)

Space isn't really an issue with Blu-ray and audio.

For example, the new Close to the Edge Blu-ray has 4 versions of the album in stereo PCM 24/96, one version in stereo PCM 24/192, one version in 5.1 PCM 24/96. AND space for another 5.1 copy in DTS-MA 24/48 and 4 versions of America (a 10 minute track) in the aforementioned formats and another set of bonus tracks in stereo PCM 24/96.

So what, like 6+ copies of the entire album in PCM and room to spare!

Maybe Universal just felt guilty using so little space on the Blu-ray format that they put as many different encodings of the same material as they could find.
