Imagine, the ground-breaking music film directed by John & Yoko, is coming to cinemas this September. Remastered frame-by-frame from the original film negative and completely remixed from the ground up from the original audio multi-tracks in stunning Dolby Atmos and 7.1 Surround Sound, this collage of colour, sound, dream and reality stars John Lennon and Yoko Ono with George Harrison, Fred Astaire, Jack Nicholson, Andy Warhol, Dick Cavett and many more.

The film will be accompanied by exclusive cinema-only bonus footage featuring John Lennon performing tracks in the studio with The Plastic Ono Band: George Harrison from The Beatles, Nicky Hopkins from The Rolling Stones, Alan White from Yes, and dear friend Klaus Voormann.
Screenings taking place globally from September 17.

Following an intensive restoration process, the original cut of the entire film has been frame-matched to the first generation 16mm camera colour negative. Every frame has been subsequently hand cleaned and restored.
The soundtrack has been remixed and remastered from all the original multitrack audio sources in glorious 7.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos (for theatres) by multi-Grammy® Award winner Paul Hicks, all under the supervision of Yoko Ono Lennon.

The film is accompanied by an additional 15 minutes of never-before-seen extras including studio footage of John and his band (George Harrison from The Beatles, Nicky Hopkins from The Rolling Stones, Alan White from Yes and Klaus Voormann) performing ‘How Do You Sleep?’ and ‘Oh My Love’ in a specially created Dolby Atmos surround sound ‘Raw Studio’ mix. Created from the original multitrack rehearsal tapes, this unique, innovative and immersive audio experience puts you in the centre of the recording studio while the band play live around you.
Also included is an up-close-and-personal early version of ‘Oh Yoko!’ filmed just before John and Yoko’s ‘Bed-In For Peace’ whilst in their hotel room in the Bahamas in 1969.

I'm gobsmacked to learn we'll be getting a Multichannel version of Mrs. Lennon. I love that song. Loved it since I've first heard it at age 11. Well done Yoko for making this happen! :)

It's not like the song has 50 tracks to mix. It's already a pretty simple mix, but such a lovely song that to hear an immersive mix of it will be fab.

that would be v.cool and would edge me closer to shelling out for a whole system Atmos upgrade shebang.. although a Sgt Peppers Atmos reissue would tip me right over the edge! :ROFLMAO:

Well, AB, Pepper was remixed in Dolby Atmos and 'played' theatrically so that remix does exist. I'm surprised no one has ever compared Gile's 5.1 remix with the ATMOS remix.

I think we’ve got more chance of a Salt-N-Pepa spinderella Atmos remix then Sgt Pepper Atmos remix?!

This is going to be mega! Ralph you might have to get yourself out of your very own multiplex to watch this one!

Unless... now the tracks are done - they’ve got to transfer it to Blu Ray?! Hope so!:LB

On October 5, Geffen/UMe will release “John Lennon: Imagine: The Ultimate Box Set,” just ahead of what would have been the late musician’s 78th birthday on October 9. The remixed and remastered six-disc/140-track collection is fully authorized by Yoko Ono Lennon who oversaw the production and creative direction.

Spread across four CDs and two Blu-ray discs, this expanded edition of what many feel is the former Beatle’s best solo album includes new “Ultimate Mixes” of the iconic album — which, according to the announcement, reveal “whole new levels of sonic depth, definition and clarity to these timeless songs” — as well as unadorned Raw Studio Mixes, 5.1 surround sound mixes, and for the first time in nearly 50 years, a “Quadrasonic Album Mix,” presenting the original four-speaker “quadrophonic” mix in a format that was briefly popular with audiophiles in the 1970s. The set also includes rare outtakes, isolated track elements and “The Evolution Documentary,” a track-by-track audio montage that details the journey of each song from demo to master recording via instructions, rehearsals, recordings, multitrack exploration and studio chatter.

The title track’s universally appealing lyrics were inspired by Yoko’s “event scores” in her 1964 book Grapefruit, and she was officially co-credited as a writer on the track in June 2017.

In addition to the album reissue, the film’s “Imagine” and “Gimme Some Truth” will be re-released in October in remastered HD with new, unreleased content and Thames & Hudson are publishing the book “Imagine John Yoko” on October 9. Compiled and curated by Ono recaps the making of the legendary album: the locations, the creative team, the artworks, and the films, in the words of John & Yoko and other participants.

Earlier this week it was announced that Lennon and Ono’s film “Imagine” — essentially home movies made around the time of the album’s sessions, and not to be confused with the 1988 Lennon documentary of the same name — will return to theaters next month with bonus footage.
