The *only* way to get the 5.1 version is in the Box Set.
The 2CD/DVD version contains 24/96 stereo (Original Mix Remastered & New Jakko Mix) only.

:( I'll be furious if this is true. I passed on the box set and pre ordered the 3 disc set (2 cd + 1 dvda), and, up to now, the descriptions of the 2 sets has always had the dvda in both sets as containing the 5.1 mix.

Yes...if that is true all information were misleading.
I ordered both versions, but also thought the 5.1 mixes are included in both formats.
I try to cancel now the 3-disc-set

:howl ELP's own store, and other online sellers, STILL say that the 3 disc set includes the 5.1 mix. BUT it looks like Amazon UK and Burning Shed have changed their description so it now reads that the 3 disc's DVDA only includes stereo. It would be nice to get confirmation of this, before I cancelled my 3 disc set, and considered the box set. I'm so pissed off with this, I'm not sure I can be bothered with the box set. I'm still holding out hope - ELP's own website store can't be wrong can it @:

Good thing I cancelled my "small box set" order and ordered the BIG box set order...
Another "Goldfrapp" move?

That is very disappointing to hear. Luckily I have the box on order from Amazon DE, but I can understand when people who ordered the small deluxe are pissed about this. Burning Shed website says that FLAC files are included, but those are also stereo only?

Disc Three DVD-A: SUPER SONIC BRAIN SALAD SURGERY

1. Jerusalem
2. Toccata
3. Still... You Turn Me On
4. Benny The Bouncer
5. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression Part 1
6. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression Part 2
7. Karn Evil 9 2nd Impression
8. Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression

Featuring high resolution lossless stereo mix of original album, new 2014 stereo mixes and FLAC files.

I was also confused to see the new vague description of the DVDA on the Amazon UK site and I worried whether the 5.1 mix was still included on the 3-disc set. I suppose that Neil would know for certain. So, this means that one has to buy the expensive box set for those mixes. Wow, this is very misleading, since both DVDA's are called "Super Sonic", so I assumed that they had identical contents.

I have e-mailed Burning Shed to ask them to confirm that the 3 disc set does include the 5.1. Their newsletter a while back included this re Brain Salad Surgery:

We have the limited edition super deluxe box set and the deluxe digipak versions of ELP's 1973 masterpiece of Progressive excess.

Both editions include fully remastered audio, new high resolution stereo and 5.1 mixes (by King Crimson's Jakko Jakszyk), alternate takes, and rare tracks.

:howl. E-mail from Burning Shed:

Hi,
Thank you for pre-ordering Brain Salad Surgery - Deluxe from us: https://www.burningshed.com/store/progressive/product/99/5688/
We have just been advised that the DVD-A/V with this edition does NOT contain 5.1 files.
5.1 files are only available on the Super Deluxe package: https://www.burningshed.com/store/progressive/product/99/5687/
If this affects your reasons for ordering the deluxe edition and you would like to cancel this pre-order please let us know as soon as possible. We are hoping to be able to begin shipping within the next two weeks following the manufacturer's delays to the original release date.
I'm sorry it has taken so long for this to come to light and for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Kind regards,
Marta Nowosielska

This is bollocks. I actually preordered from Amazon, and if the descriptions of this had been correct initially then I could have preordered the deluxe box at only £50, and of course its now a lot higher.

I agree - this really is a load of crap. Perhaps that's why the 3-disc edition was delayed - so they could re-do the DVD-A without the 5.1 mix. I'm canceling my pre-order from Amazon.

I wonder why this is happening. Poor sales of the deluxe box and last minute strategy change to try to boost sales? Bigger margins of the deluxe edition compensate the potential higher income of the smaller set due to volume?

Thanks to Adam and his review I changed my mind last week and bought the deluxe version after having cancelled the 3-discs one on Amazon. Should be waiting for me at home tonight

The 2CD/DVD version contains 24/96 stereo (Original Mix Remastered & New Jakko Mix) only.

This makes no sense whatsoever that they would ask you to make a version of the DVD with just the stereo mixes only…
Without the new stereo mix on CD and no 5.1 mix on the DVD-A, this really is the most f***ed up set of BSS (the 3-disc I mean)
Thank goodness I bit the bullet for the 6-disc edition so I actually get what I want…now I'm just waiting for it to come in...

I won't order either set now. Are record companies really this stupid. This is so frustrating. Why do they only include the multichannel mix on box sets? I have no need for vinyl, large packaging and books. I only want the music.

What the fuck! This is fucking bullshit! I had this thing preordered for forever, it keeps getting delayed, and then I find out once again we have to buy the super deluxe edition that is nearly $200 for a surround mix? And then on top of that, I almost wasted money on a dvd-a without the surround? Order cancelled....and now the thing that has the surround mix is fucking sold out.

Could they have handled this release any worse? Looks like I can't even buy it....I guess I have no other choice if I want to hear this.

I agree with the sentiment, but in fairness, the super deluxe box set is still available from Amazon UK for about US$90 (shipped to the US). That's still too much for me to pay for the 5.1 mixes.

I dont get it, on the Merch Now page it says:

Went to amazon.co.uk, searched for it, found nothing. Went on the 3 disc pre-order to see if it would show up as a related item, nope.....I can't even find the super deluxe edition on amazon.co.uk, so if they do have it for that price, I don't see how they can sell it if people searching for brain salad surgery can't even find it.

cancelled my order I am just not that big a fan to invest in the box set

Thats two overprced box sets and poor marketing strategies causing lost sales today

Good day saved myself over £200 so far.
