cancelled my order I am just not that bi a fan to invest in the box set

Thats two overprced box sets and poor marketing strategies causing lost sales today

Good day saved myself over £200 so far.

Totally agree. With the ELP one it was probably a late rethink to the 3 disc set, "I know, lets delay the release, remove the 5.1 from the release as originally stated, then all those mugs will switch and buy the expensive box set instead". What will probably happen is that those "mugs" (you and me included) will cancel and not buy any version at all, so they will end up losing money. Screw the greedy fools. I've been fuming about this all day. The stupid thing is that, if the listings had been honest in the first place, then I might have gone for the deluxe boxset at the outset, but their greed with the way that they have done this has just annoyed me so much.

Hello,
As stated on our website we will be offering the 5.1 mixes!
All of the information that we’ve been given on what items we will be receiving are listed for you.
Different vendors may be getting products that we are not carrying.
Let us know if we can do anything else,
Jenny

Hi, it has come to my attention that this edition does not include the 5.1
mix as stated on the page, please confirm if the DVD-A includes the 5.1 mix
or not and if not, please cancel the pre order as it makes no sense tu buy
this without the 5.1 mix, the only thing I was really interested in.

kind regards,

Cristóbal

Who is the seller here? Presumably not Amazon or Burning Shed?

That would be MerchNow. I got this email from them when I emailed asking about it and asking to cancel the order if there's no 5.1:

Hello,
I am not sure where you are getting this information. The descriptions listed on our website for these items are what was sent to us by the record label for this pre-sale and as far as we have been told these are what we will be receiving. Sorry for any confusion!

Hopefully with multiple cancellation requests, someone over there will try and figure out just what in the heck is going on. This is getting confusing.

Ok, I pushed MerchNow for more info, and got this:

Hello,

We are e-mailing the record label to see if we can find out why there is differing information regarding this item. I will contact you back once we have some confirmation from them.

Big label reasoning is so messed up.

ONE HAND: Let's see, we'll put a 5.1 mix exclusively in an expensive box set to make sure we can move these big ticket items.

OTHER HAND: 5.1 does not sell, so why bother with it.

MAKE UP YER FOOKING MIND GUYS :howl

Just so you know :
Disc Four in the Super Deluxe Package and Disc Three in the Deluxe are labeled the SAME:
DVD-A: SUPER SONIC BRAIN SALAD SURGERY

But in fact they are not similar but differ in the fact that the deluxe set does not have the 5.1 files and conversely the Super Deluxe does not have as far as I can tell the FLAC files the Deluxe set claims to have. So the Super Deluxe Set is not SO Super OR complete. Who at SONY is responsible for such a mess? Am I wrong?

Sony Should have included FLACS on SDE!!! AND 5.1 on the 3 disc. The SDE is a great set. I like the 5.1 mix better each time I hear it . Carl's drums have benefitted by this release. I have heard a few new notes from Mr Emerson. The worst you can say about the 5.1 is that they could have had more fun with the 5.1 soundstage. BUt it is a great addition to the ELP catalogue and a great addition to any surround sound aficionado. Go grab it while you can.

On the one hand, both sets contain a dvd-a, it wouldn't make sense to author separate dvd-a discs for this purpose, and the 3 disc set is advertised to have 5.1 through ELPs merchant, merch now, who are completely caught by surprise at the emails inquiring about the lack of 5.1 on the 3 disc set, which would suggest there's some misinformation. If anyone would know what's on the discs, you'd think the official merchant for the band would.

On the other hand, the guy that authored the discs has told us they are different discs, with the 3 disc version having no 5.1, and if anyone would know what's on the discs, it would be the guy that authored them.

I don't know what to think at this point.

I just ordered the box from Amazon UK. For US residents, it came to 47.24 pounds, with 3.08 pounds for shipping, for a total of 50.32 pounds, which at this moment is around $84.75.

Since this is a limited edition, and it's officially only available in this box, those interested here in the USA might want to go this route.

NOTE: The site will show a higher price, as VAT is added to it, which gets removed for US orders

This is incorrect.
The *only* way to get the 5.1 version is in the Box Set.
The 2CD/DVD version contains 24/96 stereo (Original Mix Remastered & New Jakko Mix) only.

Neil, what is the reasoning for this? You are authoring 2 different DVD-Audio discs?

Pure corporate stupidity driven by GREED
Order cancelled, I will pass on this release.

Why have they issued a stereo only DVD-A when they've issued a 5.1 verison in the box set..???:yikes

It just doesn't make sense to me... and the super deluxe is already out of stock on Burningshed..

Well, I bought the first two 2xCD+DVD sets and was ready to buy the BSS one but will definitely not now if it doesn't contain the 5.1 mix and won't buy a BS box with vinyl to get it. I'm, at least, fortunate to own the earlier surround mix. Another sale lost. Less time spent listening to ELP. Well done marketing dept! Bravo!

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Elp is not one of my favorite bands so buying the 3 disk set was my way of supporting 5.1.
Sale lost from me as well,I already have the 2001 BSS.
In fact they should just have rereleased this set and just dropped an S from the title and I think it would be more appropriate title for what they are doing, "BS".

A thousand thanks to Neil.

A thousand less kind words to the record company.

Order cancelled, of course.

Order cancelled as well.
If anyone has contact info for "the proper channels" where I can voice my dissatisfaction with regards to this last minute switch up, please post the info here and I'll be sure to send them a note.
