Cool. NZ is getting a barebones release with just the 3 cuts and a few extras I believe. I'm only interested in the Theatrical Cut so will hopefully get it in the next few days.

Weird how a DD 5.1 mix was on the DVD release but hasn't appeared since.

Will also opt for the 'barebones' release, Pete. Who needs all that SWAG? Surprised as well the 5.1 remix wasn't incorporated into this 'comprehensive' UHD4K remaster!

Diggin into my new Kino Lorber UHD4K acquisitions, I watched the Theatrical cut of director Fraser C. Heston's NEEDFUL THINGS based on Stephen King's novel and thoroughly enjoyed it. An exquisite UHD4K transfer from the original camera negative further enhanced by HDR10/Dolby Vision and a serviceable DTS~HD MA 5.1 soundtrack. What I didn't watch and look forward to is the included BD~V [upscaled to 1080p] which includes the full 191 minute Television cut on a separate BD 50 dual layered disc. Quite a bit of content and for KL's sale price of $17.99 a great deal as well!

Needful Things (1993) Review - Shat the Movies Podcast

I'm getting in the mood for Halloween by watching some horror films. This one looks great in 4K and the DTS:X mix (7.1 in Clementland) sounds very good throughout. The actions sequences really come alive, making great use of all of the channels. Ennio Morricone's score also sounds wonderful. A great, claustrophobic horror/sci-fi trip. Highly recommended!

Actually Clement, a GREAT 4K remaster. I have watched this film for years on laserdisc, DVD, blu ray and the UHD4K is revelatory!

Clementland - love it! Might start referring to my place as Peteville.

The Thing rules. Carpy's second best (behind Christine so saith I - hey, I'm a car guy). One of the few films with an all-male cast that works.

I dug the 2011 one too (no spoilers). For anyone who thought like I did, "Why's they's remaking The Thing? That's stoopid.", go check it out. Only available on BD at this stage.

Those NECA figures really are the best.

Speaking of Halloween, it's Friday the 13th this week. Time to get in shape:

While we're ALL gearing up to celebrate Halloween, Amazon Prime is now streaming RENFIELD with Nicolas Cage, Nicholas Hoult, Awkwafina and Ben Schwartz in 4K/HDR with a wild discrete 5.1 soundtrack [no extra charge for Prime members]. My impression ...worth a watch ...bloody as hell ...and Cage is his usual outrageous persona!

From Germany's TURBINE MEDIA comes this extraordinary film in Native UHD4K/HDR10/Dolby Vision/Dolby ATMOS in a magnificent digibook format

Deep below the surface of a seemingly tranquil remote lake lies a perfectly preserved family home. When a young influencer couple sets out to explore the submerged house to capture uncharted content for their social media followers, their dive turns into a nightmare as they discover a sinister presence. With limited oxygen supply and time running against them, the couple must find a way to escape the underwater house of horrors before it's too late.

It was a bloody hoot. It is a shame there are no plans for a US 4k release.
Feast would also be gross fun in 4k. If you have not seen it check it out .. you are welcome and also I apologize. ;-)

Since it’s a Universal title I’d bet money it’ll be coming later on next year. Universal just upgraded many of their previous Blu-ray only titles to 4K, such as The Black Phone, Cocaine Bear, and M3GAN, many months after the Blu-rays came out.

In my opinion a real slap in the face to those who bought the Blu-rays, but I wouldn’t be surprised seeing a similar situation with “Renfield”.

Furthermore while the Blu-rays only got DTS-HD 7.1 tracks, the 4K’s feature Atmos mixes which I’m sure is what was heard during their theatrical runs.

I love the original The Thing as well and grabbed the 4K disc a while ago but still need to check it out. Sounds like it's a great transfer!

I really liked the 2011 one as well and don't get why it's not more popular. Will definitely buy a 4K if they release one.

Amazon Prime Day had some great deals this past week, so I picked up 4K UHD versions of Jaws, The Batman, and a box set of the first 6 Mission Impossible movies at very good prices.
