I spent Halloween Night watching a VERY entertaining 3D version of a remake of MY BLOODY VALENTINE. Shot in REAL 3D, it was simply AMAZING! Let's face it, the original wasn't exactly a masterpiece, but if you have a capable 3D monitor ... the POP OUT effects are relentless.

It's now available from AmazonUS brand NEW for $10 ... and if you like your 3D full speed ahead as opposed to 3D LITE [bad upconversions] then take the plunge and see for yourselves.

Believe it nor not, I had never seen this movie before [Silly ME]! Amazing Kino Lorber restoration from elements supplied by MGM/UA!

Still holds up after all these years.

And best part: Only $17.99 when Kino Lorber had their recent sale!

HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION

I was hesitant to upgrade my BD~V of GOODFELLAS due to poor reviews of the UHD4K video upgrade but after watching it last night in its entirety on Warner's Native UHD4K, I can VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND it. Especially since AmazonUS has it currently priced at $13.99 which includes not only a BD~V disc but an entire BD~V of bonus features.

Scorsese's masterpiece still packs the proverbial WHALLOP and truth be told, it's not a showy film ...... in terms of cinematography but the DTS~HD MA 5.1 soundtrack with copious 70's, 80's and 90's rock classics moves the story along at a brisk pace proving once again that Martin Scorsese is still THE master of WISE GUYS cinema which certainly influenced the SOPRANOS. And Ray Liotta's performance as Irish/Sicilian gangster Henry Hill [based on his true story] is transcendent as of course is Robert DeNiro's portrayal of mobster Jimmy Conway. Joe Pesci once again is over the top as he was in CASINO as a loose cannon with absolutely no sense of morality...and pays the consequence.

I VERY HIGHLY Recommend Warner's Native UHD4K remaster of GOODFELLAS ....

Wow, thanks for the tip! Ordered!

Halloween is over, but I’m ashamed to say I watched about 3 horror films throughout the month of October proper, so I’m playing catch up. First up, is Scream Factory’s 4K transfer of Tom Holland’s Child’s Play (1988). A movie I’ve seen countless times over the years but it’s the first time I’ve spent time analyzing the 4K release since getting it last year. This is a great scan, very grainy as it should be but the grain is rendered beautifully.

I love the original Child’s Play but I’m more partial to the second, which I’ll hopefully be checking out the 4K in full tonight. I’ve checked it out briefly and it looks great.

There’s a 5.1 mix along with a new Atmos mix. I listened to the (original?) stereo option and thought it sounded great. Movie states that it was released to theaters in Dolby Stereo but I am unsure if this is a downmix.

A fascinating 2008 Interview conducted with the REAL Henry Hill

\

FYI: According to Hill, in order to garner an R instead of X rating, 36 minutes were excised from Goodfellas. And according to Hill, he has a disc of the COMPLETE film with the 36 added minutes!

It's that time of year. 50% off Criterion at Barnes & Noble until 12/4.
This includes the 4k Mean Street out later this month.
Swung by the one near my new place (tiny selection compared to the one near me when I lived in Illinois 😭)
Picked up these:

Upgrading Princess Bride is a no brainer

I had mixed feelings about "EO". I found he story itself quite depressing. I for one am a big animal advocate and don't like to see animals imprisoned by man weather it be a cage, ropes, enclosure or even a fence. I understand the importance animals are to people both in work and as pets, but this film seem to focus on an unfortunate donkey that must rely on people to survive and experiences the ugliness of people while trekking through the unknown on its way to a fateful mistake. The red movie poster has EO looking down at the viewer and evokes a sense of comedy, (even though I knew it would be far from it). Relying on eye close-ups to present the donkey's thoughts doesn't do justice because of the lack of change, and the red and psychedelia the director chose in parts only adds to the uneasiness the viewer senses throughout and I never felt very good about this donkey. Yes there were moments and scenes of kindness but I was hoping for a re-watchable film that at least warms the heart by the end. I almost threw the film away after buying it but I may visit it again someday, It certainly had me thinking days later about it and to me that is the sign of a good film. And, yes a great surround soundtrack.

Mission Impossible: Dead Boring - Part the First (4K):

1. I yawned through the one decent action sequence, a ton of expositional dialogue and yet more Judeo-Christian mockery last night. Did an "AI" write it?

2. Anyway, the surround mix was constant and the lows were literal wall-shakers. You may want to drop your subs around 7dB or so from their usual movie-watching levels just in case.

3. Not a patch on Ghost Protocol or Fallout in terms of exciting action sequences which is, after all, the best part of these movies. Everyone's getting a bit too dang old for it too - LISTEN to Danny Glover!

Perhaps TOM SHOULD STICK TO HIS ROLE AS MAVERICK and stop trying to prove he's a Human CGI superstar! BTW, I did recently purchase TOP GUN: MAVERICK for $10 from Amazon in 4K ...at least I know what I'm getting and it did afford Cruise his much coveted 15 minutes of fame upon its release.
