Interestingly the (standard) Blu Ray set announced alongside this *is* stretched out to 16:9, but the 4K has the original.
Seinfeld was originally shot on 35mm film with Panaflex cameras ... so there was room to expand it to widescreen. It was originally broadcast in 1.33:1 but why they are lavishing the widescreen on the Blu ray edition and not the 4K is somewhat of a mystery!

At least SONY is including both editions in their upcoming box set!

I'm not sure if was an exaggerated problem and someone just picked a one-off example, but a lot of people seem to prefer the 4:3 version because of things like this - https://x.com/Thatoneguy64/status/1443961536079450117

It was shot and framed for 4:3. If there's extra left/right information in an open matte, it's not meant to be seen. The 16:9 presentation on Blu-ray and streaming was created by cropping the top and bottom off of the original framing.

Ended up doing this (not leaving the house now that the Denver area is finally getting cold fall weather seems… awesome). Ordered Scorsese Shorts (planning a Scorsese marathon Thanksgiving weekend), Risky Business, and put in a preorder for Ryuchi Sakamoto - Opus (with an Atmos mix!)

Ordering FUNNY GIRL, PAPER MOON, Gregg Araki's APOCALYPSE TRILOGY, THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY et alia. Already have RISKY BUSINESS and SCARFACE

let us know how Opus is. Some of his music really touches me and if the ATMOS mix is solid I'll probably spring for it.

Thanks for the heads up from Janus Films regarding Ryuichi Sakamoto's last performance in Dolby ATMOS .. OPUS. Just pre~ordered. Am a HUGE Sakamoto fanboy!

Orca (1977) 4K:

1. I got this Studio Canal release: https://www.jbhifi.co.nz/products/orca-the-killer-whale-1977-4k-ultra-hd

2. Image is superb. New 4K scan and restoration. Colours and detail are a huge step up from the previous BD.

3. Audio is dual mono but that's fine by me as the previous BD release only had a DTS-MA 5.1 track and it was one of those awful sounding wide echoey mixes. The mono on this 4K makes everything audible and all dialogue can finally be heard and understood.

4. I likes this little flick that often gets lumped in with Jaws rip-offs.
