While this release is good news I also have the AF quad so ill pass. If reviews show its a major upgrade well maybe I can add it to a shipment of the new Santana quad sacd release...
What Santana new Quad release? Or you just being hopeful for Santana III

Have any of these Japan limited releases sold out yet?
I haven't seen it yet. Maybe I'm wrong.
Its also cheaper to wait for importcd to get them.

ImportCD and even Deep Discount [their 'sister' company] will eventually list BIRDS of FIRE as it does almost ALL JAPANESE IMPORTS at prices comparable and sometimes less than even CDJapan.

During Deep Discount's recent 15% off sale [with FREE S/H], I purchased a slew of Japanese Imported MQA discs at prices LESS than CDJapan.

Sony Japan are doing a rather high percentage of reissues of what has already been out on 4.0 or 5.1 SACDs. Don't they realize that sales will be stronger if they choose non-previously issues quad masters? AF made such a big deal out of (not doing) titles that had been issued in stereo only. Yet Sony Japan are going for the quad and 5.1 titles already out on SACD. It's discouraging to me. I don't see the bright side here. I see the years ticking away, and none of us getting any younger.

Glad others are happy about it.

Licensing narrows down the possibilities exponentially.

True, but except for those artists fortunate enough to secure control of their masters, SONY still controls the rights to many of their artist's master tapes across all of their many labels...and unlike a lot of other major labels has a better track record of PRESERVING THOSE MASTERS!

There was a lot of talk about the AF release having some of the channels reversed making the panned drums cross the sound field diagonally instead of going round clockwise (or anticlockwise). Hopefully this will be addressed?

It certainly does when it is an outside reissue label, but as previously noted, when it is a major label that owns and controls the catalog the obstacles become far far fewer.

Nyad, your point is key as to my ultimate decision to buy or not to buy, as I already own the AF version. I’ll be waiting with great interest for reviews on QQ giving the deciding 👍 or 👎.

It's such a brief part of the album. While I'll probably pick up BoF 7", especially if they got the channels right, I'm just not sure it will improve my experience all that much.
It's supposed to be a fresh remaster. I'm at least as curious about the sound quality, compared to the AF release, as I am a moment of drum panning. The Z pattern through the room is weird, for sure tho.

Has that been confirmed (consensus) on the channel misassignment (via Q8 maybe?) That would explain the Z pattern though right? On the Poll thread, someone believes it's the fronts that are swapped IINM.

It can be ripped and corrected, we have the technology 😬

@fredblue ???

From what I gather it's front channel swap.
Correctable, sure. I've just never had the motivation.

I wonder if the Sony remaster can/will fix the "naff" cymbal hit at 1:42 of Resolution.
Eh, it's somewhat audible on the stereo masters I've heard. Maybe just more exposed in the quad mix.
Wonder what happened with that hit?

The circular drum motion is brief but of course the reversal of the front sound field affects the whole album. If one is familiar with the original mix, the swapping of guitar/violin placement is very noticeable throughout.

I've ordered the new one because I'm curious about that, desirous of the gorgeous 7" packaging, and curious to hear if it's been mastered significantly differently from the AF SACD
