The subwoofer was the last speaker I purchased for my system and for a while I debated whether I needed one. After listening to 5.1 for about 5 years now, I really feel it takes a subwoofer to lay down that base for the sound structure. I know I sure miss it on the albums that don't have the LFE channel.

That suggests maybe your non-sub loudspeakers aren't outputting enough low bass, not that you need *encoded LFE content in music*. Needing a subwoofer is not the same as needing LFE.

Anyway I know dave gets bored easily, so it's best we move this LFE geekery now and use this thread to talk about KC discs that haven't come out yet.

We can try to get to 10 pages like other unreleased music has on other forums.

Edit, make that 10,000!!!

In about 7 weeks I will recieve a Burning Shed post containing King Crimson - Red as a DVD- Audio release with extras. Damn!

Back on top(ic)......

Amazon UK has put preorder at 11.98 but doesn't specify that it's DVD-A. I will stick with BurningShed for all albums. Let's see if the next two will be available soon...

ITCOTCK will be released on it's 40th anniversary.
I get shot at dawn if I miss this deadline, so it will happen on time as I feel sure I wouldn't like that much.
Lizard will follow shortly afterwards.

On the upcoming DVD-A of Red , the song Journey to the Centre of the Cosmos is taken from the Providence gig.

As expected, but I was hoping it would have been an unreleased studio version , maybe with Ian McDonald.

I posted the news at a spanish forum about these releases, to promote them a little over here too. The people were wondering about the additional audio formats. I've understood DTS is included but I haven't seen any first-hand confirmation that it is 96/24. Neil Wilkes, would it be possible that you enlighten us about this?

Many Thx
AL

PS: Don't worry about sending me my commision. Save it up for a ballistic vest instead, just in case :D

There is no studio version of this title - it only exists as one of the improvisations on "The Great Deceiver".
(It's also "A Journey", not just "Journey" - as was pointed out to me on RC1)

The version of "Providence" is the full one - whereas the version on Red itself is almost 2 1/2 minutes shorter as the tape ran out on the recorder that was used - you can hear the sudden fade-out (later on, a second tape had been found with the additional music, and this is what appeared on TGD).

@ArnoldLayne
Content is as follows for all albums.
1 - 24/48 MLP Lossless 5.1 (Audio Players)
2 - 24/96 MLP Lossless Stereo (Audio Players)
3 - DTS 5.1 from 24/48 source files (Audio & Video players)
4 - 24/48 LPCM (Audio & Video Players)
Bonus content will always be in both stereo formats, and may or may not also be in 5.1.
Video content will always have 24/48 LPCM audio.

I think that the version of "Providence" on TGD , while historically interesting, does goes on about 2.5 minutes too long : I agree with the edit on Red ...IMHO

re: A Journey to the Centre of the Cosmos: while it is listed as an improve on the TGD box set, it is actually introduced by title as a work in progress. I am sure there are parts that are structured and improvised.

Looking at the set lists available on http://www.geocities.com/kcrimsonlive/kclive32/index.htm I see that " A Journey" was first listed on 3/29/74 and possibly one or two more times prior to the Providence gig on 6/30/74.

I have not heard these earlier performances, they may be " A Journey" in name only

And to these ears, the opening movements of A Journey is very similar in structure ( but a different key?) to the improve "Asbury Park."

Were the live tracks from Red available from a multi track or just a stereo source?

ALL these are from multitracks.
Providence, as I explained, was not edited but the tape ran out, and the second set was thought to be lost & did not surface until later.....

"ALL these are from multitracks."

Great !
so there exists a future possibilty that the entire Providence show could be released in 5.1. ( I know it depends on cost and demand)

What about the the live tracks on S&BB ? (and the complete show from November 23rd 1973 concert at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam.)
* my first surrond sound receiver had a surrond sound option of the Concertgebouw Hall.

and are there multi tracks form Asbury Park, NJ, June 28th, 1974?
