It's still impressive to see one of the big quad receivers (like the QRX-9001) and it is way big enough to accomodate a turntable sitting on top.

:D

I would prefer NOT to have the turntable on top, but the openings in the IKEA entertainment center aren't wide enough to accommodate either the SL-1300 or my Pioneer CTF-950 cassette deck. I'm too cheap to buy a new entertainment center. I'm like Chris, I don't plan to change anything (until it bugs me so much I can't stand it!! Darn... now it's starting to bug me... D'OH!!!) :)

I just upgraded my speakers last week. I needed to get rid of the four Bose 901s in order to free up the only 4-channel inputs into my QRX-9001......
This sure is confusing. Speakers using inputs?

Each pair of Bose 901 speakers requires a 2-channel tape input/output for the active equalizer. Normally, for stereo, this would be a spare 2-channel AUX input, but in this quad case I had to use the single 4-channel IN/OUT of the QRX-9001. With no active equalizers, I got my tape inputs back for my Akai GX-630D-SS.

My next search is for something to provide both a CD player and Pandora Internet radio with a built in display. I could use a cheap DVD/BR player, but then I have no way to display the tuner, unless I add a monitor to my otherwise vintage system (ain't gonna happen.) The only thing I found was the Sangean DDR-63, but it's over $300. Any suggestions?

Those speakers look great Chris. Bet they sound it too. Nice.

I am delighted with how this speaker system looks and sounds and the appearance meets with approval from the female head of household. I don't have any experience with comparably priced current sets from other manufactures to say how it compares to the competition but based on reading reviews, there are several available in this price range that should be really good.

Boy, that approval from the FHOH is invaluable and often hard to obtain! Well done!

JVC 4-Channel Sound Effects Equalizer. Just arrived today; still not integrated into my system, but plan to use it with the QRX-7001. But of course, I had to power it up anyway - all the lights work.
A unique feature (not sure I'll ever need it) is the ability to switch which output channels are controlled by the two groups of sliders (System 'A' = left group, 'B' = right group), using the large knob on the right. Three different configurations available.

Got a carver C1 preamp (thrift store (50.00) to use for the front channels coming from my Oppo 95. Amp is Sony 330ES. Love that sonic hologram built ito the pre amp!!

I got a Sony STR-DA555ES. I needed a receiver upgrade. I'm not made of money, I know this isn't quite cutting edge anymore, but it meets all of my requirements and I think it's pretty awesome. I also have the big touchscreen remote RM-TP502 on the way. Anyone ever have one of these hefty units?

Product Information:

After building the phenomenal TA-E9000ES Digital Preamplifier, Sony's next challenge was to create an A/V Receiver equally qualified for the new age of home entertainment. The best decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS (Digital Theatre System) signals was just a start. Sony also demanded power amplifiers that deliver the sound with full impact. And Digital Signal Processing that places multi-channel digital sound nto the ultimate playback environment. The result of these efforts is the STR- DA555ES Receiver. It offers high precision decoding for both Dolby Digital and DTS sound tracks. Like the TA-E9000ES, sonic accuracy is maintained by Sony 32-bit DSP, Sony digital filters and D/A converters. So multi-channel digital sound is converted to analog with spectacular dynamics.Sony delivers those dynamics to your speakers with a power amplifier worthy of high-end separate components. The typical IC op amp is replaced with discrete push-pull transistors. Equal power to all five main channels does full justice to Dolby Digital's full-bandwidth surround channels. And FTC/UL 4-ohm ratings mean the Receiver is fully prepared for today's speakers. These designs mean that you'll hear movie sound tracks with the same dynamics, the same clarity, and the same brute force that you experienced in the theater. And Sony has accounted for the acoustical differences between your living room and a movie theater, so you hear movie sound tracks exactly as the movie director ntended. Thanks to all these technologies, the STR-DA555ES makes DVD movies and music video titles come alive as never before.

Boy, when it rains, it pours. I was going through a Goodwill tonight and what do I find?

A Yamaha Natural Sound DVD-S1500 universal player for $6.00!!!

No power cord or remote, but I've seen some remotes cheap.

Anyone know where would be an easy place to find the power cord? Anyone know the part #?

Even if it doesn't work, it was worth the gamble at 6 bucks. Its a pretty unit too and the the reviews I've seen are glowing. This paired with my above post should be a heavy duty pair for surround sound!

No sub-woofer?

Those speakers look like around 60Hz to 80Hz lowest bass (8inch woofers?)

Just for shits and giggles, I unplugged the sub(s) and changed the Onkyo's configuration to set all speakers to large.

It is amazing how great the quints sound without a boomer.

Hoo boy, what a deal you got! power cards are a dime dozen. You should never toss one out if it's not connected to the device. draw a configuration and I'll see if I have it, if no ground, you can still use a gounded cord if it fits.

It kinda looks like a typical computer AC cable but without a ground. From research, I think a lot of Denon DVD players used them. Kinda like a pig nose. If it doesn't matter that they have a ground I may look around a see if I can find one of those computer types and see if it fits. I know I have some squirrled away.

On Oppo site they tell you about firmware upgrades, usually customer issues cause them, like my 103 stopped playing homemade copies and they are addressing it at the end of Oct. they start ok then turn to all distorted shit. Oppo is aware of it, and will fix it.
