Off sick yesterday and today, a rare occurrence! Not up to listening to music yesterday - an even rarer occurrence!! So today I decided to pick a few albums I hadn't listened to in a quite while, Steely Dan's "Gaucho", 5.1 SACD (Brilliant), Mark Knopfler's "Shangri-La", 5.1 SACD (good, some lovely guitar, but I felt was 4 songs too long!), and Elton John's "Tumbleweed Connection", 5.1 SACD (Brilliant).

Following the thread below I think the EJ SACDs are great, apart from Peachtree Road which sonically I found poor, and didn't musically hit me either. Its a real shame/madness that the other earlier 5.1 mixes have never been released, why?

When I listened to Peachtree Road earlier today I was on my computer doing other things and playing it at low listening levels...after seeing your post I put it back on at high levels...it does have some sections that seem brighter now at higher volume levels..I wouldn't call it "poor"...just not up to the earlier EJ surrounds..it's more a "blended" sound that sharply individual sounds on some parts of songs..BUT I still love the songs..

Hope you're feeling better. :)

Now I just can't wait to hear Tumbleweed Connection in 5.1!

Let me mention this...Aqualung was mentioned on another thread and I just happen to see ONE for sale on amazon(US)for $107.92 + $3.99 shipping..they are hard to find and usually more money than that...I paid much more for mine...this is the 5 disc set that includes the blu ray(and vinyl) HERE

Hope you're feeling better. :)

Its a great set of remixes ("Where To Now St Peter" is quite different from the original stereo with extra guitar parts etc) you feel Greg Penny extracted every little detail from the multitrack masters.. but the best thing on it from a 5.1 perspective is, imho, the bonus track original version of "Madman Across The Water" featuring Mick Ronson.. I don't want to spoil it for you Simon but the sheer amount of speaker gymnastics going on puts many riotous old Quad mixes to shame, it is absolutely scintillating in surround and entirely befitting of the lyric, the music and the arrangement of the song itself.. Mr. Penny you are THE MAN.

You're not spoiling anything for me Freddie Boy. I'm really looking forward to hearing it and this should be within the next ten days. :)

Playing now:

David Gilmour - On An Island - DVD-V

Spending my time before work today listening to what has been so far this year my favorite surround mix of a classic album: "Trilogy" by ELP.
I have a feeling some of Steven Wilson's upcoming remixes (like "Oranges & Lemons" and "Fragile") may beat it in my end of the year rankings, but right now, it's king! A great job by Jakko! :)

Schiller - Leben (SACD)

Been putting in some long hours.

This is a good one to fall back on and let the mind wander...

David Gilmour-Rattle That Lock......King Crimson-The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh shows from the Starless box

Holst: Orchestral Works Vol. 1 (SACD)

Gustav Holst:
The Ballet from "The Perfect Fool"
The Golden Goose
The Lure
The Morning of the Year

Joyful Company of Singers
BBC National Orchestra of Wales
Richard Hickox (conductor)

For anyone who has Volume 2 of the Holst cycle from Chandos, Vol.1 can be recommended with equal enthusiasm. The surround mix is basically ambient, but it a nice fullness that really blooms when cranked. The performance is first-rate!

ZZ Top - Live At Montreux 2013 in DTS-HD Master 5.1
Feeling bluesy tonight and just had to hear Jesus Just Left Chicago (oh take me with you Jesus!) :music

I love that disc...it's a real shame that Roy was just making a comeback and then he passed away...at 52 he still had a lot to give us...one of those signature voices that I will never forget...

last evening listened to "In A Gadda Da Vida" by Iron Butterfly sadly from stereo LP and thought this one will be amazing in surround, particularly drum's solo part.
