OK, let me get this straight. The Multichannel mix is also available on Blu-Ray? Are there sonic benefits to getting the Blu over the SACD? I ask because I love being able to program only the tracks on the SACD whereas I doubt I could do this with the Blu. Is the Blu as bright sounding as the SACD?

I found the GYBR Blu-ray less bright than the SACD, plus there are some other (subtle) differences I can't remember off the top of my head.. oh there is one very major difference (which probably doesn't mean very much to very many people or possibly anyone else! ) in that the track "Social Disease" fades up in the original and on the SACD in Surround but on the Blu-ray it goes straight in at full volume (it was worth getting the Blu-ray for that alone to me.. but then I do have a gazillion different versions of that album already.. it's had its fair share of reissues, shall we say.. and well, why stop at 14..!? :D )

There isn't a huge difference...but the blu is not as bright..IMO...and from a user standpoint the blu contains everything on 1 disc...not 2 like the SACD....here are some other opinions and links to some sources HERE

Thanks for your output Lads! I'll be getting the Blu-Ray then. :)

I saw a few weeks ago some really low priced copies of the EJ SACDs new. I have no excuse to not grab them all.

Ahh.. Captain Fantastic (its my QQ avatar, donchyaknow.. ) .. a stunning album given superb surround treatment. I would make that the next EJ SACD you get Simon ;) but don't let me put you off the Tumbleweed SACD, it's great too in surround, excellent in fact.. but the 72-76 phase of his career is for me really something special and to think that everything he did in that timeframe at his absolute pinnacle has been remixed in surround and we've only ever heard less than 50% of it is bordering on the criminal (have mercy!).. take 1974's "Caribou" album, probably the weakest of his output from his peak but it still has The Bitch Is Back, Ticking, Don't Let The Sun.. plus Greg Penny had remixed several nice extras into surround for the cancelled SACD, including Cold Highway, Sick City, Step Into Christmas, the previously unreleased "Ducktail Jiver" and Pinball Wizard. Oh I could weep..

Chances are Penny also mixed in surround tracks like the re-recording of "Skyline Pigeon", "Planes", "Sugar on the Floor", and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart".
On my end, there's been plenty of weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth because those 4 albums' surround mixes still linger on the shelf.
Universal doesn't even have the decency to reissue the other surround mixes (originally on SACD) as Blu-Ray Audio discs. Logic does not prevail yet again…

All of the EJ SACDs I have are amaze-balls awesome.
I have 5 of the classics. GBYBR on BD.
I think I'm only missing Peachtree?

EJ, Tumbleweed, Madman, Honky Chateau, GYBR, and Captain Fantastic are the 6 classic EJ albums released in surround, and the only other surround release besides those is indeed Peachtree Road.

That is interesting. So if Social Disease does not have the fade in at the beginning on the blu ray then I must assume that it is a new mix. Perhaps someone already mentioned this but I must have missed it. Looks like I need the blu ray after all.

Enjoy! Let me know what you think. I'm not familiar with that album at all.

I was just going to say that these songs are unknown to me and this is the first time I'm hearing them...I'm on song 5 right now and I like what I hear...of course the sound quality is good..but the songs themselves are "fresh" to me....I like the content so far(y)

I could be wrong, but I don't think the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" Blu-Ray has a new mix, just a new (or flat) mastering.
Some have mentioned that the Blu-Ray sounds a little less bright and less compressed than the SACD and DVDA discs, which sounds to me like it could be Penny's flat mix without the additional mastering added on later.
In the case of "Social Disease", maybe the long fade-in for the surround mix was originally added during the mastering stage and so Penny's flat mix would not reflect that. Like I said, this is all somewhat speculative on my part, but the rest of the disc sounds like the same mix as what's on the SACD and DVDA discs.

It's the 2003 mix and a 2014 remaster by Bob Ludwig..check it out here
