Just arrived today and on my first listen

i seem to remember some of the Surround of this (unfortunately, great album) had to be fudged in some way? upmixes and/or work tapes with limited numbers of multitracks to work with? something along those lines..

revisiting these Dutton Vocalion Quad gems makes me realise how superior many of the old 4-channel mixes are to some of the newer 5.1 & Atmos stuff, at times with some Atmos mixes it feels like only 2 or 3 of the 11 speakers i shoehorned into my shagpad are actually doing anything!

Which is why, Adam, I own approximately 99.9% of ALL D~V's exceptionally remastered QUAD SACDs! AGREE 100% all of those 70's QUAD albums expressly remixed to show off the nascent format are so relevant today. Whether easy listening, rock, pop or classical, the Wizard of Watford has managed to bring a smile to this 70's once long haired [and mutton~chopped] QUAD 'groupie.' And in fidelity never before thought imaginable.

EDIT #1: 5 songs in I was having a bit of a problem with spectacular rears not lining up well with the fronts. I turned up the fronts by 2db each (L,C,R) and seemed to be better.
Edit #2: A touch bright, mostly with the vocals, but I do have a small amount of tinnitus, so highs do effect me. Overall an excellent remix and look forward to another listen and exploring all Liner notes, and 3 additional CD's.

Yes, reading the liner notes the multi channel tapes had been lost so it’s a mix and mash of 8 tracks, 6 tracks, 4 tracks and stereo upmixes, my first listen I never heard a great deal from the rears but what a great album

Dts, not the best mix i’ve heard but given what they had to work with it’s no surprise, nonetheless it’s a great album and worth having in the collection

Per Eric Johnson, the DVD Audio was mixed and published using the incorrect masters. Eric spent over a year to perfect this album. When it was released, he discovered the error and had them pulled from the shelves. There may be less than 2 thousand of these in circulation.

I did a quick preview before ordering but I should have taken some more time. I found it very boring with the same dance beat on nearly every song. I think a computer could write this music. To the shelf it goes.

I’m really interested in how I find this one. (Finally got across the pond to Jersey and is now bouncing around the states somewhere.)

A number of the SDE releases have stretched me musically but there have been none I’ve totally disliked. However, I’m aware it may eventually happen.

The lead single didn’t impress me, but having an instrumental mix did. Looking forward to where my first impression falls.

The music of Orbital is best served in a festival tent with plenty of pollutants in your system..... or so I've heard
