Lol, I hear you. Like the Pet Sounds blu ray that's "suddenly" got 4 CDs stuck to it now like sh!t to a bear's a$$. I'll give 'em this much, they know their market. Someone figured out that, in most cases, people like us will pay gobs of money to get anything decent in MC. You'd think I was like Pavlov's dog just because I'm whimpy and weak willed...

Lichtmond 3 - Days of Eternity DTS-HD Master 7.1 outrageously discrete. We were talking about this one on another thread, it's a fantastic listen! I run my subs just slightly hot and have to back them off a bit for this one.

9.1!!! Does that mean "height" speakers? I have room on my receiver for two more channels. I'm currently rockin' 7.1. It is described in my manual as 9.1. Two "height" speakers go directly above the FL/FR speakers, at ceiling height. Angled down, I guess?
Anyway, some say that is 7.1.2. Question is, if I have the two last channels wired to speakers, will the 9.1 Auro mix send the right stuff to the two extra speakers? Is it the right configuration? It's a Pioneer VSX-70.

I'd say you're on the right track, if it's actually Auro 9.1. I know the configuration for cinema (assume a similar set up for music so you're not moving stuff around) is front, centre and left are normal...side surrounds are at 110 and 250 degrees and now you have 4 heights, 2 over the front l&r and 2 over the side/rear surrounds, all tilted down slightly. Maybe someone on here has a 9.1 Auro set up and offer more details? I'm thinking DTS-X and Dolby Atmos may push Auro aside, in North America at least.

Edit: Don't think yours is Auro, any of the Pioneer units from a few years ago with 9.2 are set up for DTS: Neo surround I believe. But if you've got the wire and speakers...plug them in and see what happens. Hope you've got an external amp for some of those channels Also of note, if you try to set the codec to Auro 9.1 on a BD and your receiver can't do Auro, it will default to 5.1, at least that's been my experience...

Perhaps ji eff is referring to the DTS HD 5.1 soundtrack on the blu ray video disc of "Only Lovers Left Alive."

VERY few movie soundtracks are released in 5.1 these days.
