Spock has made me think of spinning some of my Vocalion SACDs. This one by Hugo Montenegro has an truly well done Quad mix.

What is the mastering like on these SACDs, like are they bright and airy, and richly sharp, or rather do they land on the bottom, bass heavy or "warmer" end of things like AF product does?

What's your favorite one in that series?(Vocalion)

I've bought four of the six titles that were released. I will eventually get the Perry Como and I'm still on the fence about the Floyd Cramer Young and the Restless. To be honest, I like the others equally. I've always been a huge Instrumental Pop (what people call Easy Listening) fan so each disc gets as much play as the others. It just depends on my mood. I'll admit giving the Mancini and Cramer discs a wee bit more play. Cramer's version of McCartney's My Love is worth the price of the disc alone. The way the brass just gradually creeps in on you from behind is stupendous.

I hope we do get a few more from Vocalion. For the price, you can't go wrong. The tapes they've used sound amazing!

Did you get any of them? If so, which one is your fave?

I have ALL six and revisit them from time to time when I'm in that Easy Listening mood. Simon, I think you'd enjoy the Perry Como and Cramer Young & Restless discs. As you said for the $$$ they're priceless and the sound couldn't be better.

Am hoping for more from Dutton Vocalion and I think as we speak they're already preparing the next batch....just a hunch.

Earlier today, I revisited both "Everyone is Everybody Else" by Barclay James Harvest (DTS 5.1 DVD) and "Drums & Wires" from XTC (LPCM 5.1 Blu-Ray) :)

I find that they have a sound of their own so you would not think they were AF releases. That being said, the sound is really well balanced, not overly bright and the bass is tight yet warm. It also varies from one disc to another but I find that the mastering is quite consistent on these releases. Vocalion obviously had access to tapes that were in great condition.

I've just noticed that this post is my 666th post... ;)
