I consider myself privileged really. The first time I heard this album was in 2009. Yep, I had never heard it before. I knew Money and Time because of the 80's live album, but that was it. I hadn't been exposed to it growing up so I've never suffered from having heard it too often. This is the case for many great classic Rock albums. Over the last year an a half, I've had the luxury of discovering classic albums by hearing them for the first time in Quad. That's pretty neat. :)

Wow Simon! 2009? Do tell...how is that possible? You weren't a fan of the music back then?

Gene, there is so much music that's been recorded in the last 100 years that it's not always possible to hear everything, whether it's popular or not. Sometimes it's also a matter of wanting to hear something just because it is very popular. I sometimes like to wait. Even with movies, there are some huge blockbusters that I have never seen and that I know that I'll never see. In the case of Pink Floyd, I heard a few tracks hear and there on the radio and that was that. The first time I became aware of them was when The Wall came out. The single was huge on the radio and my auntie had bought the LP. So I became aware of the band through that album but since it was the only one of theirs she had, I didn't explore further. To be honest, I thought the music was alright, but perhaps if I'd heard earlier albums then the music would have grabbed me more on an emotional level.

I think it was great for me to truly experience The Dark Side Of The Moon when I did because I was ready to "get it" and fully appreciate it's significance and it's importance musically and historically. That, I think, made the impact more profound.

So yes it took me years to discover that one and appreciate it, but it also means that it still sounds fresh to me. :)

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!!!! I always say...

There's a LOT of stuff that I wasn't aware of that has FLOORED me, e.g.
BOWIE!!!!
Yes, I always liked and admired him ; heck ; i even went to see him in 1990 in Orlando on the Sound and Vision Tour, and didn't know more than half of the the songs....
Now, thanks to a GREAT friend, I am just flabbergasted by his output and discography...which I STILL haven't listened to "properly"...

Good point. The Moon doesn't sound very fresh for my ears - which is fine. But, wow, all their older albums before that I ADORE THEM. For sure they were not on my rotation list until more recently. Though Piper has always been a favorite of mine, as was Animals. (Post Moon) Had them both back in the day and my friends just didn't want to listen. Especially to Piper. :)

Neil Wilkes has an incredible Bowie collection!

Funny, cause I find DSOTM a very MODERN and a recurring disc in my playlist...although my fave is WYWH....

Saw that same tour in St. Petersburg, FL!

When it comes to Floyd I find their material from the "early" years most satisfying.
From Piper up to and including DSOTM , would be their most adventurous, experimental, and artful.

For Simonizer,
Ummagumma was the first Floyd disc I listened to in 69, shortly after it's release, and I continued to purchase everything Floyd after that. I have to agree with GOS that yes , DSOTM becomes (for me and possibly others) a bit of an "Aural Exhaustion". I listened to this disc upon it's release and was astounded. Best thing I've ever heard ! But I have listened to the quad disc far too many times since 73, and that would include WYWH-stereo and quad.
So it's rare I listen to those two anymore and The Wall, again "Aural Exhaustion ".@:

Animals (77),is also a unique, underrated Floyd disc I think, anyway.

That being said all those recording of Floyd's Piper to Animals are good to great, well worth getting. Hell, I would buy the box, but that price is too nuts for me.

Yesterday I gave 2 discs a bit of a first listen, not Floyd.

Gave XTC -Skylarking a bit of a listen, I think Dear God should have a bit more surround, the bonus tracks sound quite lively in surround.
-and disc one of Tales DVD-A, a bit overblown for Yes as I remembered from the past, great surround though. Would make excellent backround music for a movie, or ---rainy day music:D

Gotta listen to em somemore though, and now I have a stack of discs I must review.:sun

Meddle 5.1 9624 from Bluray !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????
Thought it NOT should be on the Early Years Box, but AudioMuxer found it !!!!! (i got the first version with an extra Live in Ponpeii 2016 mix CD - Have heard thats limmited))
Very expensive Box .... but yet again... with ALL that's on it its just OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most are very good quality and some poor quality films are added for the sake of history - Fine with me!:sun

Can you please check if it's also on the DVD? I don't have a bluray drive on my laptop and won't be able to rip the bluray. What a discovery!
Maybe OBC 5.1 is hidden somewhere else!

Opeth Ghost Of Perdition mixes I did from stems. Pretty rare.

I can't quite match what Jens did to the clean vocals. The ones on the DVD have an airy quality. You can finally hear the separation between Bass guitar and kick drum now though, which is excellent. I wish I had the whole albums worth. Such a fantastic recording.
£22 well spent to DL all the available stems and multis from lite records site(2 week pass).

3 Full albums and over 60 new tracks.

Sorry to say that I can't find the 5.1 mix of Meddle on the DVD... only on the BD. But the old quad mix of Echoes is on both DVD and BD (and in the menu... Meddle 5.1 is not)
And can't find OBC in surround either.....
But 3,5 surroundmix are better than 2,5!;)

You should get some kids and buy them a Playstation or alike (to hear BD music;)

Got a 5 years old kid already, but video games are forbidden at least for some time. Y may try and get a cheap bluray burner just for it, but for the cost of the boxset they could have included the bluray drive!
A pity OBC is not in there, but now I'm really nervous to get my box this Wednesday.
And by the way, "leaving" the 5.1 in the disc is a good kick in the **** to James G. I wonder what will happen when this piece of news spreads...

Million dollar question now: how does Meddle in glorious 5.1 sound?
