Seems like that happens quite a bit with a lot of albums for some reason.
I rarely ever listen to much stereo these days, especially on titles that have a surround option, so as long as the surround has the better dynamic range I'm good. As a matter of fact, I believe I'll start my evening listening/drinking/smoking session with this album!

I hear you man, I feel the same way - but now that I have a NAS, I sort of feel like ripping all the different versions...if I like it enough to do so.

how do they handle the two drummers, one channel or two?

I'm pretty sure that Jaimoe is in the left rear and Butch is in the right front. I know that sounds a little odd, but with all the other discrete stuff around the room, it actually works really well with the rest of the music.

DAVID GILMOUR, RATTLE THAT LO-CK Blu Ray; got this last February and tried putting it away in the original packaging early on but wanted to listen to it so often that it ended up in a slim disc holder for ready accessibility. Seems some don't care for it much and that's okay but even the wife and kid love this here. By the way it is a very nice package effort. Oh and at $22.85 new, almost unbelievably good.

A look at the poll thread is instructive in this regard.
Some perceptive and articulate folks post here.

Not for nothing this one scores so highly.

The fidelity is excellent and the mix is a dry, ultra-discrete ‘quaddish’ presentation. Lead vocals and the occasional instrument are isolated in center channel. My only mix complaint is that Trucks’s drum kit and the bass are placed right front channel. This works OK for the denser sections and when Jaimoe is also playing kit (left rear) but for many of the instrumental passages there’s a big ol’ hole in front left corner.

Bought my original copy when price was higher...then once the price dropped...I bought another copy to keep sealed. Figured I might give it to my buddy sometime.

Lee Ritenour - 6 String Theory

love those Monster Music DTS DVDs.. the George Benson "Songs & Stories" and Benson & Al Jarreau albums in particular turned out really great, the surround mixes on those two are totally terrific imho! what a shame they aren't doing any surround music releases these days..

It's about time someone lit a fire under your butt, Buckley! :flame

you know Ralph, i may throw that flippin' Feliciano record on the bonfire -- its not so much sandpaper Quad as popping candy Quad! I've cleaned it umpteen times (if I wash that LP anymore in the machine I think the vinyl will evaporate its totally mirror shiny spanky clean!) and the crackles are still louder than the music on several of the tracks (authentic bonfire sounds they may be, not so much like the stunning RCA Feliciano recordings as I know them in 2-channel.. please DV rescue these Feliciano Quads from their shitty vinyl and eight track prisons!!).. I think I have one last resort (which my good man steelydave has advised in the past with these crackly old Quad records and I've not been brave enough to try it yet --- the wood glue trick! and if that doesn't work I'll wait it out for another copy and then if that's equally duff I'll give up! :violin: )
