David Essex - Rock On

crikey i'd forgotten how over the top this mix is! :yikes

Another great find I owe this amazing site...though at this point almost everything I listen to I found out about here. That includes entire genres (prog, jazz fusion).

Glad to know we'll all still be here next year so I can continue my journey into the musical unknown.

Hmm, don't have that one. How is it released ? I am sure out of print ?

Old quad mix on 8-track and SQ matrix vinyl. Like most Columbia quads OOP since the mid-to-late 1970s. I did a conversion from the 8-track if you'd like to hear it.

I think we'd all love to see it reissued on SACD though. I could totally see DV tackling this one.

its an album i didn't know at all until Jon mentioned it on here some years back as having a great mix,
so as is customary when the trusted opinion of someone into our mutually beloved hobby who really knows their onions comes forth and proclaimeth a mix to be good, i went a-hunting for it.. and 3 conversions, 2 SQ LPs, a Q8 tape, a Hail Mary and 148 Bloody Mary's later, here we are again reflecting/marvelling how so awesome a mix could have gone unloved all these decades..!?

Dutton Vocalion, over to you baby! as my mate sjcorne says this one has your name written all over it! (imho i agree with all my heart, soul and liver  ) :p

Same here...he also sold me on Late For The Sky, If Only I Could Remember My Name, In The Court Of The Crimson King, Close To The Edge, and probably many others I can't think of atm.

The guy is a genius...

Quad mix by Jeff 'War of the Worlds' Wayne! I was surprised that none of Essex's follow-up albums were done in quad, given that Rock On was a hit and the follow-ups would have happened in the 73-75 heyday of quad.

"the chances of any Quad
coming from Wayne's World of Wars
are a million to one", he said..

Tapas someone who never serves you enough booze, just a taste of alcohol!

Moss: "It's pronounced "Tay-pas!"
Jen:"No, no, it's not!"

Man, I miss "The IT Crowd"!!!!
(delivered with a HEAVY Irish accent..."Have you tried turning it off and on again,?...are you SURE it's PLUGGED in?")

My Eagles "Hotel California" Box Set turned up late yesterday evening from amazon.de, so I listened to the BDA today (I have the SACD & DVD-A already!), sounds good, the disc defaults to the 5.1 DTS-HD Master. The BDA was a nightmare to get out, it would have been easier if there had been 2 finger cut-outs, at one point I thought it might break! One thing did puzzle me, absolutely no mention that I could find anywhere in the set, that it was Elliot Scheiner (with Bill Szymezyk) who did the surround mix. Its a nice box set..... that is at the amazon.de price.

Revisiting some of my favorite releases of the year:

First up is "Misplaced Childhood" by Marillion (Steven Wilson's 5.1 surround mix on Blu-Ray)

Next up will probably be "Three Piece Suite" by Gentle Giant (another Steven Wilson 5.1 surround mix on Blu-Ray)

:)
