the SQ LP of Musicmagic is, imho, an exemplary, umm, examplar, of a really great SQ LP (I blathered on about it here at QQ, while I was on my SQ LP Surround Master decoding trip, for quite some time, seemingly to little to no avail.. a mere handful of members were sufficiently bothered to get in touch at the time.. still, I enjoyed it immensely.. until Dutton Vocalion well and truly blew that old SQ LP out of the water with their fabulous MultiCh SACD, fresh from the Quad master tapes... stunning surround.)

I'm surprised this recording didn't somehow "eek out " as a single inventory SQ disc at a later date. Notice the very tiny Quad emblem on the front cover ?

Almost an afterthought from the label, that in 77 went single inventory with the remaining quads.

Steey Dan-Two Against Nature DVDA

Just had to listen to fantastic surround mix on "Jack Of Speed ". Horns top notch in surround with all the chorus vocals and everthing else tossed about with aplomb . (An Elliott Scheiner--shiny moment , imo )

Since Ralphie opened the door on another thread...I thought I would bring one out of the mothballs...I didn't have to "root around" for it like Gos 3.0 and his search for Truth...it's was within my reach.....now this is advertised as 5.1 DD...but it's more like Big Stereo...miserable failure as a surround disc...BUT...and you know there was going to be a disclaimer...her voice is SO awesome that even the "bleed over" in the rear channels is OK on this one...smooth operator was one of my "go to" songs during this time period..this is not one I would recommend for the average music lover...I just wanted to play it to trigger some memories

Toto-Falling In Between Live Blu Ray....the surround options yield the usual concert results....you don't buy this one for the surround..BUT...the sound is what I would call "in your face" in a good way...it's not passive...the energy engulfs you...the instruments seems to jump out at you...especially the keyboards with Greg Phillinganes...and the impressive guitar work by Steve Lukather...and the song list is impressive...I HIGHLY recommend this concert...and the good news...it's inexpensive HERE

James Taylor Live At The Beacon Theatre-DVD concert from 1998 that has great vocals and a great performance...the surround is the usual concert "big stereo" sound...and on this disc... with this type of music..it works....so if you have $10 to spare..grab a new copy...or if you have $5.00....select a used copy...and enjoy James when his voice was intact and with this amount of content it's a no brainer IMO...this DVD was a "big deal" back in 98...and now it's a "good deal" with it's low price....I have been an HD and blu ray snob since those technologies were introduced...but recently I have taken a look back at some of these earlier DVD discs... and I now appreciate them for what they offer...what they lack in a technical sense...they make up for it in the voices of the artists...I highly recommend this concert for the performance and vocals....you can buy New Here...or buy used HERE

If you are looking for Sade in discrete surround sound try this one: Sade - Life Promise Pride Love. If I remember correct it uses the rears pretty well.

Got 3 or 4 Toto BDs, this one is by far the best(y) , though the 1991 Montreux concert is a nice step back in time :D

Moving on to Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa - Live in Amsterdam (2014 Blu Ray) - much better, discrete and better fidelty :smokin

Nice choice :) I have 9 or so Joe BDs, and most are fair to middlin' for audio quality, surround mix etc imo. My favourite is till the first one I bought, Beacon Theatre. Finally got to see him live a couple of months ago and he was great, as advertised!

I got 8 BD's of him - I think the Beth Hart is the best sounding electric concert. But the best in fidelty and surround mix must be the acoustic opening of the Tour de Force - Live in London - Live in Royal Albert Hall. Also the "An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House" has a nice discrete surround mix and great fidelty. Was hoping for the same with the Carnegie Hall disc - but no.

I hate that the 2008 Live From Royal Albert Hall disc sounds so muddy, because the show is awesome, twin drummers and Joe is on fire!

Some good, some bad :)

Agreed on the ‘08 RAH BD, sound is disappointing. I don’t have the TdeF RAH disc, just the other 3....might have to pick that one up:D I watched the Carnegie Hall concert on PBS and made a decision not to bite on that one.

Listening to now: Mannheim Steamroller - Christmas Celebration on DVD-A in 5.1
