Oh, I love singing and I do it constantly whilst I'm walking in the street so yes, I sang last night. :D I was passing by this place close to my flat and I noticed/heard a collective of four young ladies who were successfully destroying The Beach Boys' Kokomo. I thought that my alcohol infused voice would probably be tolerated by the group of eight people in the joint. The cool thing about it is that 90% of the people there would sing in turn, including the girl who tended the bar and the one piloting the Karaoke machine (whom had a pretty decent voice). So I chose to sing things I'd never tried before but wanted to do for a long time with some I've been singing for twenty years. I don't know why, must have been the wine and cocktails, but I sang two songs at a time, which in retrospect may have seemed a tad show-off-y, but the folk did not seem to mind. Here's the damage that was done:

I'm Only Happy When It Rains (Garbage)
Come Undone (Duran Duran)
Suspicious Minds (Elvis Presley)
Never Tear Us Apart (INXS)
Superstition (Stevie Wonder)
Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers)

The Kokomo bunch asked me to sing one for them, which I'd never done before, and I was happy to obliged.

Legs (ZZ Top)

To me, Karaoke is like Bowling, it's about having fun and not taking yourself too seriously. :)

To answer you second question, I absolutely love The Boatman's Call. I'm playing it in 4.0 at the moment as I'm only picking up my Center speaker at the end of the afternoon. I really like the mix such as I'm hearing it so I imagine that hearing it in 5.0 will be even better. I only have three of the Nick Cave multichannel titles, but I'll be getting seven more in a few weeks. I'll eventually post my thoughts in the appropriate Poll threads. Are you a fan of the album/mix Clint?

I see you live in Canada now...but did you ever live in the UK?

Not yet, but I'll check it out in the coming weeks. I'm also thinking about getting Seven Steps To Heaven.

I haven't had the pleasure yet, but it's been a dream of mine for years. Why do you ask? I'm actually French Canadian, but my most of favourite TV shows are all Brit. Love the music as well, like most of us here. :)

Your use of the word "whilst" made me curious...my UK friends use that word all the time...

And how about Monty Python? I grew up watching all that.....hahaha!

You better believe it! I love Monty Python. I used to watch the Flying Circus VHS tapes that Paramount had brilliantly put together in the late 80's. That became the foundation for helping me learning spoken English. The Holy Grail, Live at the Hollywood Bowl and The Meaning Of Life are also amongst my faves.

Back to music:

I've just added the center speaker to my set-up and I'm loving how everything sounds so far. I'm enjoying the Hell out of Botnick's 5.1 mix of The Soft Parade in DTS. Man that is good! I cannot wait to hear the AF Quad SACD.

008.JPGFirst Listen...on People Are Strange and the vocals are crystal clear...OH MY Riders on The Storm sounds so good..whew....

Have you compared Love Her Madly in its Quad mix there with the 5.1 DVD-A/SACD version yet? It's quite something :)

Just a general observation....all the vocals seem MUCH more prominent on the quad mix compared to perception or the SACD's..and I mean that in a good way...no comparison IMO...quad is much better...I don't even have to play the other version..it's that noticeable to me...

Found some old mags today..

If you live in the US and were involved in Laser Disc...Ken Crane was the man!...Every week I would be calling his 800 number to listen to the recorded message about new laser disc releases and specials of the week(usually $19.99)...I talked a manager at an audio store that had laser disc rentals to rent them to me on a weekly basis...I drove 150 miles(roundtrip)to his store to rent discs...I was there about every week....but Ken Crane was my main supplier thru the mail...HERE is one of his stores before he went out of business..if you ever had a problem with a disc HE would be on the phone and he made it right...he was a cool guy to talk to...

I subscribed to The Laser Disc Newsletter and spent far too much money ordering from Ken Crane's. Agreed, Clint, his was a class operation. Despite its flaws I have fond memories of LDs. After all they were my introduction to surround sound. :)

I never got into laser discs, but Ken Cranes is where I purchased my first DTS CD "GAUCHO" and many more soon followed. They had a great selection and efficient mail delivery I loved.
