Thanks, Lute - I'm trying to add more classical surround titles to my collection, but I know there must be so many I'm just not aware of. It's been a slow process. Thanks for the tip -

It's great to hear from a fellow enthusiast of classical music. I've been focusing on classical recordings that actively use the surround channels here. But, there are also many good performances with a more ambient surround recording (tastefully & effectively done of course).

I am not exactly sure how most QQers feel about ambient classical recordings. I hope you guys and gals don't mind if a post some good ones every now and then. :music

I hate them. IMO, any ambient surround mix - regardless of genre - is a disappointment. I certainly don't mind you posting about them as long as you make it clear that it is an ambient mix.

Post away! I like the ambient stuff, and my knowledge of good orchestral/organ/piano surround recordings is patchy.

I say post away too. I can make my decisions on a disc by disc basis and in my books, more knowledge shared is better. I would rather see a post for a disc and know more about it than to buy blindly, or to decide not to buy it if I don't feel comfortable with what I read.

Let us know Tornado

You know, I'm not sure what's wrong with this disc (or me, lol). I've had people over (not necessarily audiophiles, and not that I'm one) and switched back and forth on the Oppo with The Guess Who SACD between quad and stereo, folks easily prefer the stereo. This thing gets good reviews here and elsewhere for the quad mix, it doesn't seem possible to have a bad disc for one specific mix. And since this is a home town band, I really wanted to like it! And it's not the AF SACDs, all the others I own have great MC mixes. I'll just leave it as an enigma and move on :)

Chris Brown (Dualdisc)

Taking a break from the classical scene. ;)

Crazy good surround mix!

So sorry you've lost your mind...

Maybe... LOL! :friday:

But... Sometimes I've gotta hear some R&B... new or old.

I picked Chris Brown's Dualdisc up uber cheap and was surprised that it actually has a discrete surround mix. The sound is a little bright perhaps.

The music... well... it's fun IMO. But then again... different strokes for different folks.

Don't worry. I will get my sanity back soon. ;)

In fact, I recently found an excellent immersive recording of Handel's Grand Concertos Op.6...

Handel's Memories, A selection from Grand Concertos op. 6 (2 SACDs)

It's not a complete recording of the whole set. Usually 3 discs are required.
But the recording was miked in such a way that puts the listener in the middle of the orchestra.

The performance is excellent. Highly charged with quick tempos.
Strongly recommended for fans of Baroque orchestral music.

Here's a video with the conductor, Eduardo Banzo, discussing Handel...

Us Quadaholics must embrace all forms of the rich tapestry of musical genres..! (Ok, I've nearly drawn the line at Chris Brown, etc.. but it's surround music, maaaaan..!) :D

My favourite song was always the title track, which I thought got over looked a lot with the 3 big hits that came off this album...
