Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part - DVD-V

What a powerful album! Absolutely love it. I also like the fact that Kate & Anna McGarrigle sing back-up and harmony vocals. It brings a creamy yet fragile edge to the tracks.

I'm always going to be thankful that Mute Records is run by people who are truly passionate about their artists and their music and their fans and decided to offer surround versions of Nick Cave's and Depeche Mode's catalogs. Yeah, I've said this before, but sometimes we just never says thank you enough.

The Moody Blues - Days Of Future Passed - SACD

I'm totally addicted to those Moody Blues Quads! Just can't stop playing them. :)

I think that one got lost in the "correction" saga...we need to bring that to Jon's attention...

I've been enjoying the new Simple Minds: Sparkle In The Rain (bd, 5.1). Is there going to be a Hi-Rez Poll thread?

I'm all for Jon posting a poll for "Sparkle in the Rain", but I worry that some members will vote in the poll based on what they are hearing from the faulty DVD-A or Blu-Ray instead of the corrected ones. (I think the corrected discs could be a '9' or '10', while the faulty ones are around a '6' or '7' at best…)
Best thing to do, I guess, to combat this, is to post obvious visual differences between the faulty and corrected discs in the poll thread so that way members have a better indication of whether they have the right disc and should vote as such.

Yep, Jon needs to make things clear when he creates that poll. The other thing is we need that poll to dispel all of the negative comments, which originally were justifiable, that are out there. IMO the corrected version is a great surround music experience.

I think enough time has elapsed to have a poll thread now...and that is a good idea about posting an illustration of the corrected discs...

All this talk of L&M Quad SACD's, I couldn't stand it anymore and needed to play these:

IHMO, Motherlode, their best album never got the Quad treatment, although it was after Full Sail.

Oscar Peterson Trio "1961, Cologne Gurzenich Concert Hall", Pure Audio Blu-ray. The music is great, the 'surround' mix little more than 'atmosphere', but it does feel like you're in the concert hall towards the front. My late father was a Peterson fan, and I grew up listening to music like this. Listening to this album made me realise how much my father played the piano in a Peterson style. Worth the £10 I paid.

Björk - Homogenic - DualDisc

So far it's my favourite of hers. I've got four more on the way so I'll have a better idea after have heard all of them. The Multichannel mix is really sweet.

The Raven That Refused To Sing blu ray in DTS-HD Master. Still trying to get into this one, I much prefer Hand. Cannot. Erase., which may put me in the minority...

Still waiting for my copy :(. Congrats, I hope it sounds good .

The short answer is... Yes, I like it. :brew

I found several QQers' critique of the 5.1 mix to be enlightening. I know some were disappointed with the it. I agree that the stereo mix also sounds good, but I'll stick with the 5.1 mix. Sure, the discrete elements of the music could have been handled a little differently. At times it seems to be expanded stereo. But, the 5.1 mix helps open up the soundstage and all the different parts...both the music and sound effects. I like how the vocals are spread out in the surrounds. Actually, I didn't have very high expectations for this release, so this might be helping my overall impression. Anyway, I'm just kicking back on this sultry Saturday morning and letting it all soak in.

Just got home and found this in my mailbox. I've been wanting to hear this in Multichannel for weeks now. All I can say is WOW! I love it!

I know saying this will make me sound like a lunatic, but I seriously think that the new album cover fits the 5.1 mix perfectly. It's still the same old place, but experienced in a new way. :)

I also received today The Moody Blues' To Our Children's Children' Children (SACD). I now have my Core Seven set complete. I must admit that this is my least favourite album of the seven, but there are still some very strong songs. The Quad mix is superb, as are the five others.

Good to hear Simon. I have that one and On The Threshold Of A Dream arriving next week, they'll be my first Moody SACDs.

These will be your first Moody Blues SACDs but is this the first time you will own their music or are you discovering them?

I think you may get hooked just like I did after hearing how well done those Quad mixes are. I confess listening to at least one album in Quad every day. I appreciate them even more with each play. I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on those after you've heard them.
