The Doors are in my top 5 favorite bands......back in the late 70's, my high school buddies thought I was nuts for playing Doors...over and over.....cruising around...back roads.....tipping some Michelobs......

The Doors were to me, America's mid 60's plus answer to the Beatles . Exceptional and prolific music for their first 7 albums---all highly recommended.

Bouncing in the Country and tippin ? , well no.........more like trippin ..... for substances other than beer at that time .

Rufusized : Rufus Ft. Chaka Khan

(this ol' Quad bursts out of the speakers and demands your full attention!!) :SG

"ohhhhhhhh-ohhhhhhhh-woooooaahhh..!!
ohhhhhhh-wohhhhhh-ohhhhh!!
yeaahh!
..once you get started,

oh! it's hard to stop,
you can't stop, you just can't stop..
when you get down y'all,
when you get down,

ain't no turnin' back, no.."

Listening now to the most voted on surround disc on the QQ forum, of course it is awesome. I saw the show in Las Vegas about 5 years ago, best show ever.
5.1 DVD-A 24/96.
Funny, haven't listened to this in awhile, it is like a show disc soundtrack, it's supposed to be, I really wouldn't try to compare it to the last two Beatles surround releases, Sgt. Peppers and The White Album. I LOVE this and I LOVE them.

Genesis - A Trick of the Tail; DVD DTS 5.1
Although I love classic prog a lot, I never really got into Genesis. But I really like this album and this mix in particular. Lossy yes, but I'm enjoying it more than I remember I did. Mix is subtle, but enjoyably discrete.

Lucky to find this at my local Borders when they existed and sad that I never was able to get any of the others in this batch of 2007 dual CD/DVD Genesis releases from Rhino.

(The art work on the cover is actual skull art - I wonder who owns it now!)
Oh and the Quad ain't bad either.

Q8 or CD-4 source?

I agree the quad mix is great, but I can't seem to find any good sounding version of it. My CD-4 is noisy (I've heard most copies are) and the Q8 conversion I've got is really dull and hissy. The On The Border CD-4 is slightly better but still not great, and the orange Q8 cart is pretty atrocious sonically. I've heard the purple Q8 carts have much better fidelity, but are really expensive.

Those two really need to be reissued, along with the unreleased quads of the first two albums. I was hoping we'd start seeing Eagles box sets every year after the Hotel California box in 2017, but it hasn't happened yet :(

Q8 conversion (I use the CD-4 cover art for my oppo because it's just nicer to look at!) I find it a little dull but not hissy. But a box set would be great - who should re-mix it?

No need, just a hi-res reissue of the quad with good mastering would be nice. But if ES took a crack at it I wouldn't complain...

My Easy listening fix for the day: Hangin' Out w/Henry Mancini and Theme from Z:

WOW, that these 70's QUAD RCA masters sound so great after almost 50 years of 'incarceration' is amazing. As Adam surmised: a rousing remarkably vibrant "Loves Theme" and "The Stripper" on the same disc is awesome.

Yep, Hank could swing with the best of 'em...........and write enduring classics like "Moon River...." What a guy!
