I am admittedly not a die-hard Rush fan (I know someone who ONLY listens to Rush - and I think he is not alone 🤔)
Anyway - all this chatter got me to finally unwrap and listen to my 2011 DVD-A version.
It seems there is no lack of criticism of the 2011 mix (which is probably why I haven’t listened to it yet), but I like it quite a lot.
Discrete enough for me…which is what got me interested in this (costly) hobby in the first place…
It will take MANY rave reviews to get me to shell out (an unconscionable) $300 for the new Blu-Ray release…but I will continue to watch this space 🧐

I think my disdain with the 5.1’s is that there’s a certain magic missing that you get with the stereo mixes. They really are unbelievably well produced and mixed. Steven’s AFTK actually retains the feel of the original mix and it’s wonderful. If only he would do Hemispheres…

My problem is that since I have discovered this mind-altering hobby I am no longer interested in stereo 🤪

Just before bed last night I saw a shadow on my porch, there it was, 3 days early, definitely the thickest and heaviest box set I ever had.
Popped in the Blu Ray for a taste, awesome.
One very tiny negative, the Red Barchetta has two wind screens and each wind screen is semi foldable, well this little 1/4" x 1/16th" piece was broken.
Going to rip the blu ray today, maybe.

If you decide you're happy with your rip and don't need the blu-ray... PM... 😉

I got all my Bro's covered, nothing to worry about.

Maybe Signals will be next deluxe reissue??
Hopefully!
It was the only time I saw them live, 2 nights in a row in the Spectrum, Philly...and a new mix would definitely be welcome so RC can sorta redeem himself...I like the original but it's wayyyy too tame (yeah , I know, we are spoiled brats!)...
Gonna try to convince my better half and see if I can get this (ANOTHER BIG) box...

I feel so lucky to have great success when ripping discs, especially Blu Rays. I know on QQ there are many who have lots of problems, doing this ant that.
My mentor @HomerJAU has taught me so much. I exclusively use MKV and MMH with never a problem, well once in awhile there are some tagging issues.
I used to get really confused with the choice/layout of some Blu Rays when starting step one using MKV, but I have this little trick now that really helps. I pop the Blu Ray in the machine and use my iPhone and take picture of menu, then when I open the disc up in MKV it really takes away the confusion.

It looks very pretty. How is the new mix? I am dying to know. Have my box unopened. I have family in the house for Easter weekend. Need them to leave so I can hear this appropriate levels. By 8pm PST I should have a pretty good idea....though Marpow, I think you know this one pretty well and I would
value your opinion dearly.

Actually I am in the same boat as you, in 3 hours family coming over and my wife is getting things ready, so she is digging instrumental Jeff Beck for now, she does not like Rush, but I am getting my Hot Rod Lazy Caterpillar all ready to blow the headers (some people call them heights) out the windows.

My box arrived this morning, as Marpow says, it's big. LOL! At first, I thought they totally sent me the wrong version as I couldn't find the CD's/BDA. They are in the very back of the book.

I can't compare the BDA Atmos to what might be streaming because I didn't try any of the streamed Atmos versions. I listened to the first 6 songs, and I'm impressed. They sure gave the songs some serious air. And, yeah, this Atmos is very, very different than the original BDA 5.1 mix from years ago...night and day pretty much.

I can tell you this, there is a lot to absorb here. You're going to hear it in a way you've never heard it. It does a super job of really spreading the sound out. Neil's drum rolls are constantly on the move. Geddy's voice is floating out there...somewhere. Certainly not isolated to center, at all.

There is no doubt I'm hearing things here and there I've simply not noticed before. It's a fun listen, but requires your attention because you're going to notice some pretty agressive moments from time to time.

I don't want to say too much more as it's just a quick listen to first 6. Sure seems to me RC did a very nice job on the Atmos, but 1 listen isn't really fair and hopefully I can give it some volume later this afternoon.

Man, it was hell prying the lid off the box...you notice that? Pretty tight fit....I'll be honest, mine came in a pretty simple outer box that was banged up pretty good. Contents were perfect though thankfully.

Mine came in a inside cardboard box in the outside cardboard box, perfect, except the little wind screen piece. Kind of weird to touch the Neil Peart drum sticks. Yes, lid very tight.

I really like the overall box experience on this one. Yeah, the sticks are cool. My car is undamaged. The heavy little pin was loose and banging around.
