Yeah man......it really does blow a person's mind. Computers and cell phones. Those 2 alone have changed everything. Sort of makes you wonder, what will be the next BIG thing. No, I mean BIG......

Indeed, right you are. I didn't come to computers as early as some around here. But it was in '93 the big purchase for Xmas was a Packard Bell PC with Win 3.1 on it. At the medical practice where I worked, with about 25 employees, I was the only one with a home computer & an E Mail address!! Prodigy, you know. Life hasn't been the same since.Yeah man......it really does blow a person's mind. Computers and cell phones. Those 2 alone have changed everything. Stand back!Definitely need to call pest control!
I remember when my wife and I first got a computer at home.....the both of us would sit beside each other and just "bomb" around mindlessly. I mean, we couldn't believe it. If I recall, the browser we used was Netscape of something like that. I could be wrong there....what were the other browsers...that have since gone away?Indeed, right you are. Mosaic & Netscape Navigator were two of the earliest. Me thinks they even preceded MS Internet Explorer by a few years.I remember when my wife and I first got a computer at home.....the both of us would sit beside each other and just "bomb" around mindlessly. The dial up modem. You would hear it dial...then start making a bunch of freaky noises and then - viola - connected in sweet 14k baud. And then 28k came along........I remember when my wife and I first got a computer at home.....the both of us would sit beside each other and just "bomb" around mindlessly. I can't count the number of US Robotics modems I went through looking for higher speed. Mostly it just didn't make much difference even the 56K modems. The dial up modem. My wife and I also had some Tandy, I don't recall the exact model. It had those crazy floppy drives. ahahahahaha. Good times. Well, that was PRE internet.Mosaic & Netscape Navigator were two of the earliest. Me thinks they even preceded MS Internet Explorer by a few years.
The first significant on line service was Compuserve and people I knew that were already doing computer careers at that time all were on Compuserve. But then you had to go out & pay actual money & buy a browser like Netscape & add on. I held out for Prodigy because it already came with a browser built in, of unknown lineage. Free browser but Prodigy cost $30 month...
I was dazzled at the MS Encyclopedia Encarta. Audio! Pictures! Movie clips via QT! I had zero training when I fired up the 486DX. Like you, I remember stumbling around. I figured out how to open an app but I didn't know how to close it. I noticed that little short dash in the upper right hand corner made it go away. Then eventually the 'puter froze up & at some point I realized I had dozens of apps/windows open, just minimized & the machine did not like that.
Now even earlier I had a TI 449A with RAM extension, daisy wheel printer, voice synth, game controller. But some how I never really did anything with it (still have it!) and I could count the nice beige Packard Bell as my real introduction.
I love this guy more than ever!I bet you both had a great time!!
Webcrawler...it crawled alright.Yeah, that's great. I love being with my grandchildren, too.
Let's not forget Webcrawler.

Why did I come across this gibberish after imbibing a single martini whilst listening to the Mercury CD of Bernard Herrmann’s magnificent score for Hitchcock’s “Vertigo”. I certainly deserve better!
When I was still woykin’ fo’ da man, I occasionally noted that when I graduated from college, the closest thing to a PC had an S-100 bus. I never had one of those, but I did have a Hp-41C, which could do conditional branching.Yeah man......it really does blow a person's mind. Computers and cell phones.
