It was just the other day that I was telling Ricky that I’ve never heard of Canned Heat before. Yesterday, I was going through a shopping bag of vinyl LP’s that were given to me a few months ago and, lo and behold, there was that album. I just started side 4 and I must say, it’s some pretty good blues. I do remember Going Up In The Country. It must’ve been a hit, back in the day.

This release and i go WAY back, but i never had it on wax! When it was released in 1996, i scored it on CD (i was all digital by then), and BUMPED it often in my classroom. When the Expanded Edition came out in 2005, i scored that on CD as well and continued to turn students on to it until i retired in 2019. Now that i'm back into vinyl, this one seemed like a natural, so i scored the 2022 repress. A sheer deLigHt!

I'm going to wait to crack the Welch set open. When next my daughter visits. I used to play her Time (The Revelator) and The Harrow & the Harvest when she was with me (her mom and i divorced when she was a wee thing). I'm spinning BLUE now. I gave my daughter my copy last year, when she fell in love with Joni (whom i also played for her a LOT when she was young). Last year, around this time, she and i recorded our thoughts about Joni for a video streaming class i was taking. Watched it this morning. Left me in tears. She and i both fell apart after We recorded it. Listening to BLUE now has me in tears again. Ah, music. Ah, humanity. . .

I'm a tiny bit biased, cause I love the movie Highlander. But yeah, this album completely does it, for me.

I have this same pressing. Man, finally...finally a release that isn't 4 Men With Beards. Finding an original pressing in decent shape costs more than I'm willing to spend.
