Clint, I echo your sentiment regarding the Warner/Rhino MLP DVD~A 5.1 of Chicago II. A really excellent album. Well worth adding to one's collection. Now, if Audio Fidelity would only license the DTS 4.0 of the Chicago Transit Authority and release it in higher res SACD! Maybe down the pike since MoFi just released the stereo only SACD (DANG!)

I do wonder though if Audio Fidelity could at least reissue Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits as a Quadraphonic SACD. I definitely don't hold out any hope for any of the studio albums since Mobile Fidelity has probably licensed most of them for themselves, but if AF can grab the Greatest Hits, that would no doubt be a HUGE seller! Hope Springs Eternal! :)

Oh man! You said it Ryan. It's true...while we've had a nice taste of some "hits" albums, can you imagine the JOY of getting more of the heavy hitters in Quad? Eagles Greatest, Chicago's Greatest, Journey's Greatest.....heck. Just release every single greatest hits ever released that had Quad...whoa......I'd be broke for sure.

Eagles Greatest Hits was never released in Quad (although some of their proper albums were) and none of Journey's albums were ever released in Quad (so you can definitely rule them out) but I'm sure there are lots of other Greatest Hits albums released in Quad back in the day that AF could reissue, including Chicago IX. It would be especially good to try and get that one out this year with Chicago's Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame induction coming up very soon. :)

Yes, they have to be mixed in Surround Sound, available for licensing and not recently reissued on CD or SACD to qualify.

Well Chicago IX (the Greatest Hits) would qualify then, cause it was released in Quad back in 1975, it's never been released on SACD, and its last CD reissue was over 10 years ago, so let's Marshall can get on this one before MoFi do! :)

Warner has reserved Chicago IX (Greatest Hits) for a future reissue on the Rhino label.
So it's unavailable for reissue on Multichannel SACD by Audio Fidelity.

I agree, it would be a great one on AF Multichannel SACD.
Sigh....

Actually it appears that Quad or 5.1 will be included.
We will see when the release is announced by Rhino/Warner.

Probably, as Adam infers in LOSSY DTS.

Whatever happened to the old Rhino/Warners? They did release some of THE best MLP DVD~A 5.1s available.

Rhino has continued to downsize as the market for physical media has declined, including laying off 40 people in late 2009. I think it's safe to say that they're a shell of what they were in the late 90's and early 2000's.

I'm hoping that with Chicago's induction in to the rock & roll hall of fame this year that Warner is planning to exploit their back catalog as a result, and maybe what Brian has said about Chicago IX indicates that this might be true. Between stereo, quad and 5.1 mixes, single edits, live material, video content, etc. etc. they have an absolute treasure trove of material that would lend itself beautifully to some lavish deluxe editions.

Noo.. I got from Brian's earlier sigh that Rhino had no plans to do 5.1/surround Chicago and were Quadblocking AF... but it now appears they (Rhino) may actually be getting back on the surround horse and giving us some new Chicago surround stuff... this is good news... BRING IT ON..!!!!

I still remember the 1989 ICE newsletter with the article about Warner Bros. collaborating with rhino to mind their catalog properly for compact disc releases. Those were exciting times. It will be amazing if we get anything out of them in terms of surround.

Well there's Muscle Of Love..

Oh hang on, that's sleazy listening.. ;)
It's rock if not classic rock however that's defined, is it current radio (or streaming) air time considering the release era? As far as really crunchy rock, I'm interested in an AF release of that variety.:)

Oh yes of course its rock! :upthumb

I was just avoiding the elephant in the room (Bread aren't rock, America aren't rock, Blood Sweat & Tears ain't rock, The Doors aren't rock, Deep Purple ain't In Rock, I can't drive 55.. yada yada yada...) we can all surely agree = AF do Rock, both soft and.. hard.

I also think that if all future Chicago releases in surround from Warner/Rhino are going to be DVD-V, they should pass it along to another label who actually knows what HIGH-RESOLUTION audio is, including Audio Fidelity and their series of Multichannel SACDs.
But hey, any Chicago in surround is better than none at all, so if Warner/Rhino are willing to have a go at it themselves rather than let anything of it languish in the vaults, I say, go right ahead! :)
