I haven't had a Costco 'Dog' in months and ironically, they don't have 'unlimited' chopped onions at our Costco but rather give you small plastic lidded cups of onions as sloppy customers were scattering them all over the 'condiment' counters.

Rather I purchase hot chili from a local deli and cook my own 'dogs' and melt cheese on the buns and apply that delicious chili for a thrilling snack.

And who you calling a dog, C E ? [dog eat dog]

Ahh... looks like a possible pancreatitis case (gotta start saving for my next vacation!)... think I'll listen to "Pancreas" by Weird Al:p

Getting funny looks as my tummy is rumbling after looking at those hot dogs!

Is this still good to go for the 31st? I can't see any listings on Amazon anymore (for the boxset)? When I check the preorder it shows up but says currently unavailable, with no price indicated? Maybe they just ran out of stock to fulfil the preorders?

Hope so... I want to be able to say on Friday morning "take a load off postie, maybe not for free - take a load off postie, and.... I'll put the disc right on play"

Good at the outlets that had it previously...except the amazon empire...I suspect they sold their allotment for pre orders...the Moose...importcds...elusive disc..WALLY WORLD...are good to go(y)

I've owned Imagine on multiple formats [including the Stereo BD~A] and I have the MLP DVD~A 5.1 of Big Pink so now I'm shelling out an ADDITIONAL $150 for both [once again]! Kind of gets ridiculous after awhile!

Will have to be a fantastic, all-10 version for me to pay that much money for Big Pink. I'm happy with the DVD-A!

Good news everyone!
Not only is "Music From Big Pink" available for order again from amazon, but the price has dropped yet again!

Now it's listed for $67.49, and there's a savings coupon of $4.41 that you can apply at checkout to get this set for $63.08 (before tax and shipping)
That's not bad for a CD, Blu-ray Disc, 7" single, and 2 vinyl LPs.

Well...it's no surprise that amazon is listed at the exact same price as Walmart...I'm sure people made amazon aware of the price at Walmart....

Here we go, folks, caveat emptor, according to the review in Variety:https://variety.com/2018/music/revi...big-pink-50th-anniversary-edition-1202915160/

For the new edition of an album originally distinguished by neither brightness nor definition, Clearmountain ignores Simon’s original intent and offers a mix so brilliant it makes your teeth hurt; in every instance where Simon, always subtractive in approach and ever attentive to subtlety and balance, mixed down certain instruments and pared the music to its essence, Clearmountain responds by pushing all the faders up, as if intent to give all the players some space whether they deserve it or not.

Strangely, while the remix is keen to add volume and jarring sonic elements to goose the proceedings for millennial ears, it eliminates certain resonant facets of the original recording. Clearmountain seems especially leery of the sonorous horn work of Hudson and producer Simon, which lofted two of Richard Manuel’s most potent vocals, “Tears of Rage” and “Lonesome Susie”; their saxophones, which contributed so deeply to the songs’ emotional pull, have been reduced to a whisper. I found myself wondering why Hudson’s tour de force Bach-inflected organ overture to “Chest Fever” sounded so bombastic, until I realized that Clearmountain had removed the delay that added an eccentric echo effect; now the introduction resembles the work of Keith Emerson.

It’s hard to agree with Robertson’s assertion, in the book that accompanies the boxed set edition of “Music From Big Pink,” that Clearmountain “has been very loyal to the music.” One wonders what John Simon, now 76 and still very much with us, makes of that statement. There isn’t a single track on the 2018 remix that will not sound decidedly weird to anyone who has spent significant time with the original record. This new set creates an unnerving disturbance in the third ear of memory.

Few records in the history of rock music have left as indelible an imprint as “Music From Big Pink,” and few were created with such a carefully calibrated approach in the studio. Unlike last year’s Giles Martin remix of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” which truly revealed new aspects of that rock monolith while remaining true to its essence, the new “Big Pink” betrays nearly everything that was exciting and original about the album when it first appeared.

"

This statement gives me hope... I felt that the Pepper surround mix should have remained less "true to it's essence", and I also tend to like it when surround mixes are unique as compared to the stereo mix (it helps that I'm not at all familiar with this album, and am unlikely to be disappointed by comparisons to the original stereo mix). Still, I'm not pre-ordering this one... want to know more about the mix from QQers before considering a purchase.

Well...I see some good news(like skherbeck mentioned in the more aggressive mix department)and some possible bad news....when this thread first started I decided to go back in time and see what the thoughts were in 2004...so I went to the surround poll...and it was revealed that the master tapes were in bad shape....and I read some observations of the release...now in that same poll just fast forward a decade and some different opinions emerge...the earlier voters expressed concerns about the tape "hiss" and later voters didn't see this as much of a problem...btw this is why I didn't want the polls to be sanitized(changes made)..it's nice to see the opinions of the era without revisions being made...but back to the title...one of my concerns going in was if this release would be mastered "hot"....more along the lines of modern mastering(and this isn't meant to be a technical explanation so no charts and graphs please)and less "old school" mastering which I prefer...and when I hear terms like "bombastic"...."add volume"...and "millennial ears"...this hints at reduced dynamic range...and Bob Ludwig has done some work which I would consider as "hot" mastering jobs...but he's also done some excellent work..

I knew this was going to be a risky release from the very start...but I had made up my mind that I was going to get it and take my chances...BUT my advice to others that aren't so committed is too wait for feedback...
