GOS, I see 2 Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells. I would love to just have one :).
I totally understand. I, like a few others, consider buying 2 copies of my favorites. One to open and enjoy, and another to stash away. Guess I'm not looking to sell those.
Of course, we all know that GOS can go on a rampage and sell off stuff at an alarming rate.

As someone who passed on the box this is simply a no brainer. Ordered!

I wish I had done the same. I bought for the half price it was selling at that moment but The Who is not my favourite band and I would have saved some money to buy other albums.

Some months ago SDE did the same with Thin Lizzy - 1976 BD. It was exclusive at their shop and living out of UK you have to add taxes and shipping so the price almost reached the big box edition at my country, so there was no reason to buy the stand alone BD edition. But I wouldn't have duded in Who's Next box because the difference between box and BD is really big.

Waiting for some others. Maybe Ultravox?

My last couple of SDE orders have been these “cut free from the box” releases: Ultravox - Lament (an album I was unfamiliar with at the time, but having passed on other SW mixes from SDE and now regretting them I figured why not), Thin Lizzy, and now this (and sometime in a week or so that expanded Duran Duran album is arriving).

Living in an apartment, conserving shelf space is a key priority for me, so $300 box sets filled with 80 CDs I’m likely never going to listen to doesn’t seem like a sound investment. I’m fine with streaming for those titles… or waiting to see if something like this happens.

OK. So the instrumental remixes on this new SDE release ARE NOT on the Box set Bluray?
Correct. They are stereo only at 24/96, and missing Bargain due to missing multitracks for that song. Otherwise if you have the box you effectively have this (minus, of course, the new instrumental remixes)

For me, having those instrumental remixes, even if only in stereo, are worth the price of admission then.

My situation is unique. I didn't buy the big box. But I did buy the Blueray disk from a member who only wanted to keep the stereo stuff and the print media. I think it cost $40 US. But I didn't get any real slipcase. If I didn't have that I'd buy this. As far as it's quality, it's worthy and has its moments, but some of the best mixes are the bonus tracks. Sonics are good but not great. But hey, it's Who's Next in surround by Wilson. It's a must have. It's going to be interesting to see how many of this sells. It's a gauge of interest in unboxed surround discs.

Your story mimics mine, but I preordered this anyway for the instrumental mixes. Those sound very interesting to me.

This release is fine for all who missed the box or couldn't afford it. I've got the box for a fair price and it is really nice. So I stick with the box and don't buy this release.

Question: what will happen with "Who Are You". Will it be like this release, box first, then BD-A from, SDE???

I like some of The Who (especially Quadrophenia) and have seen them live and they were fab, but I'm happy enough with this on Tidal. I played it today in case I changed my mind, but no, still happy with the streamed version. However, this is the first time I've paid attention to that cover. I've seen it now and then down the years, but never realised they're all meant to have just taken a pee against a monolith reminiscent of the ones from 2001 A Space Odyssey. Hence, 'who's next?' Honestly, such lads. 😁

You know I was just talking about this single edition happening about a week or so ago , and well.. here we are.
I passed on that ridiculously priced box set as history with Who's box sets usually confirms a later single issue.
I actually thought maybe another year or two , but when I opened my emails .., I just had to laugh as I saw it with SDE for January.
So thanks go to Paul at SDE ...and yes you bet I ordered it early this morning.

This is a tough call. The release of this SDE title makes me want to search out there for an ultra-cheaply priced big box set, and be happy for the savings, and the books included.
