Neat pic, thanks for sharing! Oh NOOOO.. you sold Thriller too!? :yikes

Yes, I too have a number of those Sony SACDs that I'm pretty sure never came with any slipcase (or at least didn't when I bought them all new/sealed) including..

..the 2 John Mayer's,
3 of the Hybrid James Taylor's,
the Zorro & Titanic soundtracks,
Beyonce's Dangerously In Love,
Bowie's Reality (EU version),
Incubus' A Crow Left Of The Murder,
James Carter's Gardenias For Lady Day,
David Sanchez' Coral,
Switchfoot's The Beautiful Letdown,
The Thorns..

..none of which came with any slipcase and were all brand new & almost all of them sealed or with the white plastic printed security label strip intact across the top of the case. Pretty sure all of them are Hybrids too.

The only anomalous one I can think of that came new without any slipcase was Jeff Beck (non-Hybrid MultiCh) which I think must have been a later Euro repressing (is that a possibility?) as it doesn't even have the black/blue dotted SACD livery on the left front of the case inlay graphics as was common on the Euro SACDs where the USA releases commonly had plastic gold or white/grey slipcases in regular looking CD cases with dark fret plastic inlays, save for the embossed SACD logo moulded into the plastic disc hub holder where redbook would just have the Compact Disc logo (so cute and such a nice little detail, imho).

Pretty sure Duran Duran is the only Sony SACD on my "must have" list now (I only have the DualDisc) there are others but mostly stereo or not of much interest, of course I missed the boat on Duran Duran, its a seriously expensive disc now (I didn't really want it when I could still afford it! Doh!) I presume its that rare/sought after combination at work again like so many of these discs driving up the prices so..!?

Toward the end of Sony producing SACD for the US market, slipcases were gone as well from those releases. For example, Duran Duran.

Here's my only photo of the "Bat Out of Hell" SACD that I used to have :( I just realized I sold that plastic slipcase Michael Jackson "Thriller" SACD as well.

I retained the paper slipcase version of MJ's "Thriller".

The initial SACD version of the OST to "Titanic" had a paper slipcase and it was a single-layer stereo SACD. It was later reissued as a multi-channel hybrid SACD.

Nov. 15 supposedly Analogue Productions SACDs: 2 by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and one by Steppenwolf, and Dusty Springfield. Those two Lynyrd Skynards came out of nowhere. All are stereo only.

I knew about one of the upcoming LS SACDs, there was an pre-order for it a couple of weeks ago I noticed on one of the Amazons.. the Steppenwolf's been a long time coming! Do you think it'll finally show?

me too! that's the good stuff ah! (in all fairness, I never had the plastic slipcase MJ!)

ah! that's why I've seen Titanic in a paper slipcase! thanks for the info! do you know if the older stereo is same mastering etc as stereo on the later hybrid? (the surround on the SACDs a stinker I know that for sure!)

I don't know whether it was remastered for the later hybrid SACD. For the 2 channel stereo mix at least, the "Titanic" OST was recently remastered in Japan and re-released as a K2HD CD. Not sure if that may get reissued on SACD....maybe licensed to someone like Audio Fidelity (i.e. Blade Runner OST)

How does Stardust sound on SACD? I remember renting the CD, back in the winter of 1983/84 when renting CD's and LP's was legal in the US, and being blown away by the sonics of the Stardust album - I had the LP which, even with the early digital mastering of the time, the CD wiped the floor with. So, I've always been curious how hi-res mastering of it would sound - same with Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual and The Human League's Dare SACD's. I wish we lived close by so I could make Involve encoded CD's of some of your SACD collection. I have a Sony SCD-CD775 5-disc SACD changer, but I've never hooked it up because I literally have no more room for full-sized equipment on my shelves - and I only own 2 SACD's anyway, GBYBR and Dark Side... which I also own on DVD-A and BD, and it seems like a lot of the SACD titles I would want were UK or European only releases and so probably cost a lot now. I would LOVE to own the Mercury 3-channel SACD's that were originally recorded on 35mm film. And the 3-channel Nat King Cole.

Those have been going cheap since the MFSL came out. Don't know why. The MFSL is missing the excellent bonus tracks.

Very true observation, I've no idea why either. I just got it last week, new & sealed, in cardboard slipcase, for £20, which I figured was a good enough deal to get it at last.

Not given the Stardust SACD a proper listen yet, though I had to check it played through ok when it arrived as the disc was pretty badly scratched up. I was shocked at the condition actually "Used - Like New", yeah right, its in terrible condition.

I contacted the eBay seller and they came back at me with a load of BS about the details of the listing stating it was "Used" (whatever that means!?) and what did I expect when I paid less than half what it fetches on Amazon etc.

to which replied that Amazon prices are irrelevant when talking about eBay auctions etc and added that I'd be posting truthful & fulsome feedback about the actual condition of the item versus the listing blurb and the way they operate and how inaccurately they describe their merchandise.

Needless to say I will not be buying from them again.
