its a good one! I like it! good price now I reckon, I got it when it was new for not a ton more than that but now it seems harder to find (not as tough as the SACD but..!)

tens of thou.? no idea.. probably.. :p

I've always been a real hardcore collector though, I don't stop and think about it all (too often).. from stickers and cards at school, to video games thru college, to laserdiscs, to things like these SACDs etc now, I must just have that "gotta have 'em all" weird mentality! it's probably genetic!@:

also I don't have kids, I don't drive, so that cuts out all those costs (I'm epileptic or I'd probably have a car, although being smack bang in the centre of London I don't really need one), I don't drink (much!) these days, I smoke less than just about anytime in my little life (apart from when I gave up in 2008), I don't go out for big expensive meals much, I've got more clothes than I know what to wear (and I spend most the day in my work gear anyway!) so my pocket money goes on all my gadgets, music, books and stuff.

as as for these SACDs, it does seem insurmountable now, I've hundreds of things I'm still looking for and really I have to stop and think "do I really need these?". of course the answer is "No!" but...! :D

fred, I'm in awe of your collection. I kick myself because I had the chance to buy a ton of these when they were at normal retail places for normal prices. I still remember holding Roxy Music's Avalon in my hands and thinking about buying it only to say $20 was too much.

The good news is that as the Hi Res Audio Downloads come online, there will be another chance to buy some of these classics for reasonable prices.

I did exactly the same as you with the Avalon SACD, except it was on Amazon UK, "hurry only 7 left in stock" for £12.. or whatever it was.. and I thought "nah, I've got a perfectly good DTS rip I never play, what do I need that for?"@:

same thing with the Frankie Goes To Hollywood, DM Violator, Tubular Bells, Peter Gabriel and Machine Head SACDs, except those I did look at in stores rather than online, I picked em up and put em back, saying to myself week after week as they gathered dust in Virgin and HMV "bah, they're always there, they'll always be there, nobody cares about these things!"

thankfully by the time I became aware of QQ (approx 2008, I lurked for approx a year before I signed up) and learned of the scarcity of these discs, some of these things were still in stores @retail prices or online at reasonable prices and I started hoovering them up (in a matter of months I found things like the Destiny's Child, Beyoncé, Ship Ahoy, Isley 3+3, Jeff Beck MultiCh, Boys & Girls, Ziggy Stardust SACDs all at retail or less and I was well away!).

I still made some crazy goofs.. Virgin had a rack of the Brubeck Time Out Hybrid SACDs (Euro version, hardest to find now afaik) and I bought one copy (as you do) and left the rest there @£13 apiece, I should have bought them all..! D'oh! I would of course snap them all up now I know better (and then send them on to QQ friends) but you live and learn don't you?

the last 2-3 years have been much more intense (and expensive!) but by golly its so much FUN!! I love these discs and I love this place so much, QQ members have fuelled my enthusiasm to seek out so many great Quad and Surround discs! I can't thank QQ guys enough! The people here are amazing - oh and the mixes and music's the icing on a very tasty cake!

My final purchase from Acoustic Sounds finally arrived today. No more DHL Global Mail for me! And they charged me a whopping $7.45 for shipping. Good way to lose customers. I'll still buy their SACDs, but from elsewhere.

May I ask.....how much?

There is/was one on e-bay recently for $499 but I ain't going anywhere near that high.
I actually met the seller, nice guy. He paid quite a bit for it, hence the asking price now.
