George Crumb: Makrokosmos I & II - Ellen Ugelvik (SACD)

Sitting on the 'to listen to' surround pile in order of arrival!

Tim Bowness - Stupid Things That Mean The World (5.1 DVD-A made from the InsideOut 5.1 FLACs) - had a quick listen last week to 1 track and it sounds very good
Ogre - Plague Of The Planet - QuadroSound DVD-A
Ogre - The Last Neanderthal - QuadroSound DVD-A
Kickhunter - Quadraphonic Game - QuadroSound DVD-A
The Doors - Best Of The Doors - Audio Fidelity 4.0 SACD

Which is why Amused To Death CD/Blu-Ray is at the bottom of the pile as it arrived last!
..... and then there are the new batch of plain old 2.0 CDs

I've just come home to three superb multichannel SACDs:

The Moody Blues - Every Good Boy Deserves Favour
The Doors - The Best Of... (Riders On The Storm sounds sublime!)
Blood, Sweat & Tears - s/t

I had also received a second hand copy of Pink Floyd's The Endless River Blu-Ray set, but the discs were actually missing, so I wrote to the seller hoping I get a replacement. I rally have been waiting to hear this one in 5.1 for a long time.

It's like Morrison is right next to you...it still amazes me...you sit back and listen to Hello, I Love You...People Are Strange...Riders On The Storm..Touch Me...Love Her Madly..Love Me Two Times...all in a row... and you are transported back in time...

I agree... I listened to the entire Perception set again over the last few days, and the mixes on "Best of the Doors" blow the Perception mixes away! It's hard to believe they were all mixed by the same guy (Botnick).... I just wish there was a "Best of the Doors" Volume 2!

I was under the impression that Paul Rothchild had done the Quad mixes.

I'm actually happy that we now have both the original Quad and the 5.1 mixes. I like the fact that I can hear a whole album in multichannel even if I don't always agree with some of the mixing choices made.

I thought that too after something Mr.Hoffman had said along those lines but it's Dr. Robotnick (who did the amazing Earth Wind & Fire Open Your Eyes MultiCh Audio Fidelity SACD).

Ok music lovers and surround fans...we need to talk...since we have had some new members that are very active...I wanted to mention something they might be interested in.....and maybe some seasoned veterans on here that haven't really considered Elton John as music they may be interested in...there are some REAL bargains on some EXCELLENT sounding discs STILL available out there...and I would give a HUGE thumbs up to titles like MADMAN-TUMBLEWEED-CAPTAIN FANTASTIC-and HONKY CHATEAU...and they can be purchased HERE...for a great price...if you don't have the titles I mentioned....give them a shot...you won't be sorry

I too highly recommend the Elton John sacds.
Listening to now, Blood Sweat and Tears ST.

Of course, someone named Captain Fantastic would have 5.1 SACD's that are FANTASTIC, both musically and mix-wise.

BS&T (2nd album) is one of my top 10 albums on any format. A wonderful Quad mix, too. I've owned it on 2ch LP, Q8, 1/2 speed LP, dbx LP, Japan CD, expanded CD, Columbia SACD, MoFi SACD & 4.0 AF SACD. My only bitch with the AF SACD is that it's missing the bonus tracks from the expanded edition, just as all of their 4.0 SACD's are.

YOU NEED all the BS&T and Elton John SACD's!

Oh, and I neglected to mention that EJ's Tumbleweed Connection is also in my Top 10 albums on any format. I've owned this one on cassette, 2ch LP, CD, MoFi CD, SACD 5.1 & 2 CD expanded. Listened to all the material on the 2 CD expanded in the last week or so. A SPECTACULAR album.

The local FYE has a used MFSL Gold CD of this, in case you want me to pick it up for you. I think it's $50. Looks like it is missing from your collection.

I've owned the Blood, Sweat & Tears self titles SACD for less than a week and I just have to play it at least once a day. I am floored by the fidelity of that recording. Roy Halee and his cohort have done a spectacular job recording this and the Quad mix is divine!

The other SACD will be here in less than a month and I'll be getting about 4 of the Elton John SACDs around the same time so I'll report about those then. It'll be a fun experience for sure.
