Oh, and I neglected to mention that EJ's Tumbleweed Connection is also in my Top 10 albums on any format. I've owned this one on cassette, 2ch LP, CD, MoFi CD, SACD 5.1 & 2 CD expanded. Listened to all the material on the 2 CD expanded in the last week or so. A SPECTACULAR album.

Yes! This has always been one of my favorite summertime, Saturday-afternoon records - in fact I was just about to queue it up when I read your post! :)

Richard Strauss : Four Last Songs, Ein Heldenleben op.40 (DVD-A)

I took a chance on this one and have been pleasantly surprised. Gitta-Maria Sjöberg gives a touching performance of Strauss's Last Four Songs. The Odense Symphony Orchestra is not major name as far as orchestras go. They handle these works well for the most part and the bland moments that are common with such lesser known orchestras are few. All the same, the 5 stars ratings on Amazon are perhaps a little generous. A solid 4 on Amazon's 5 star rating scale would probably be more accurate. The sound is nice and immersive. Very good for a live recording. Rear channels are active and provide plenty of depth, but are not particularly discrete.

It's very cheap on Amazon...http://www.amazon.com/Four-Last-Son...0135&sr=1-1&keywords=DVD+audio+Strauss+Odense

Whack up the rears, lower the centre and crank the master volume..!

(..Would be my advice if you are underwhelmed initially with this one..)

QQ member steelydave came up with a detailed set of notes in one of his "second guessing the engineer" threads on here, I'll have a look for the link and post back.. his adjustments make a world of difference to the mixes, imho.. sound quality generally is excellent fwiw.

Edit: See link to relevant thread below..

FINALLY listened to some of this yesterday. Good sound and with more rear channel response than I expected. Cobham and Bolin really smoke!

Roger Waters - Amused to Death (BD)
Elton John - Madman Across the Water (SACD)
Elton John - Captain Fantastic (SACD)

Had these waiting for me when I arrived home late last night. Looking forward to several hours of listening and some cocktails this evening

And those are really worth the wait IMO! Nice catch.

Yeah - except now it is 1:30 in the afternoon on a weekday and I am desperately trying to NOT go downstairs and mix a revolver or a moscow mule and fire up the sound system. It is going to be a LOOOONG afternoon.

Jaco Pastorius Big Band: The Word Is Out! (SACD)

Excellent immersive surround sound with discrete rear channels.

Available at very reasonable prices...http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EGDB60/?tag=sacdinfocom-20

Oops! Be advised that the link above may or may not provide the disc you're expecting. It is listed as a hybrid "SACD-DSD," followed by "Format: Audio CD." The one I just got today was just a regular 2-channel CD. :( (I'm going to return it.)

It looks like there are quite a few suppliers listed for this disc. Mine came from Amazon, but was "fulfilled" by Warehouse Deals, Inc. Since there are no more available from that supplier, perhaps the problem has solved itself, and simply ordering from one of the others listed will get you the correct disc. I'll probably try this myself in a little while.

I'm really sorry to hear that, Jim. I've gotten burned before with Amazon. I am often on pins & needles with orders from all those suppliers. You might want to try emailing the supplier first before ordering to confirm that it is indeed an SACD you are ordering. Hope everything works out. It's an excellent disc worth seeking out, as is the "Jaco Pastorius Big Band - Word of Mouth Revisited" SACD.

Oh please don't feel bad, Lute - I'm still grateful for the link. I didn't know there even was a multichannel of this title. Besides, it couldn't be easier to return stuff to Amazon.

I think Amazon needs to add a few new categories to their database, to distinguish these myriad disc formats more explicitly. It does get confusing at times. Guess I'll drop them a note, if I can figure out where to send it...

Just picked up Toby Keith's "Shock'n Y'all" on Multichannel SACD

This is a title I swore I would never buy, but there it was, so now it is mine.

I may have to hold my nose while listening to this title as I normally HATE country music, but we'll see how well it goes! ;)

I'm not a big country fan either but I'd never part with my copy of Producer's Cut: Emmylou Harris (dvd-a). The voice of an angel.
