.....what Gene said......I could afford it. But it's more than I want to pay. I also am not that interested in books and gegaws and t shirts.

Live at Leeds, in my opinion is one of the greatest live records ever. A lot of single guitar bands are lacking in their live shows, which is why many hire a second guitarist for tours. The Who is one band that didn't need to. Never saw Zeppelin, but all the live stuff I've heard had me thinking that a second guitar would have added so much to their live sound. But The Who I DID see live (Dec. '75 By Numbers tour), and was in awe of that performance. What a band to see live! Which is why this set has so much material that isn't just filler. It's worth the premium price.Indeed. In their prime, The Who was a live band without equal. A force of nature. I am as excited for the San Francisco performance as I am for the surround mixes. It's a holy grail that Who fans have been wanting for a long time. (Most of the London performance has been previously released....and it's awesome. The version of "Young Man Blues" is better than the one on Live at Leeds).
I can certainly understand why some people are put off by the $300 price tag. I love Pink Floyd as much as I love The Who and I did not shell out the cash for the 50th anniversary Dark Side of the Moon box set. But I am more than happy to shell out the money for this one as Townshend is giving us a treasure trove of vault material that I am very eager to hear. Had the Floyd done that, they would have gotten my money too.
It's a shame that they didn't make a tchotchke free version. It could have been priced accordingly and packaged in a cd sized packet/box . I understand why some fans might want all that crap, but I have learned through experience that it just sits in the box in a cupboard somewhere taking up space. There is no band for which I want to collect non-music related artifacts anymore. On the plus side, as others have mentioned, at least they didn't package digital and vinyl together.I could afford it. But it's more than I want to pay. I also am not that interested in books and gegaws and t shirts.
You're comparing a Pineapple Thief release to one of the greatest albums of all times?I stand by what I say, holding in my hand the 1 Blu-ray + 7 CD boxset from The Pineapple Thief which includes 8½ hours of Atmos and 5.1 mixes done by Bruce Soord, which is as good as Steven Wilson, that I paid a third of the price of the Who's Next boxset. It's also the most expensive boxset I ever bought.

I screwed up, I am sorry. That was for DSOTM, vinyl with the CD's and Blu-ray. I've been trolling all morning and just mixed a couple of things going from tab to tab on my computer. Plus, sometimes people just see what they want to see!Could you share a link for that listing? I'm not finding it using Amazon's search.
Dave Clark learned that lesson the hard way. By the time he was willing to re-release the DCF titles, most people only wanted a hits collection. This is a great point Clint that's been made time and time again. The longer these guys wait, the less of a market they will have. The kids today don't want to listen to 50 year old stuff (did we?), and not only that, they don't buy anything, not even the stuff they love. They only stream it.
Only old farts like us will even pay attention to a box like this, and at our age, we're pretty much retired and on limited incomes.
This stuff should have all come out in the '90s and early '00s
For a decision of this magnitude I would suggest going to the local pub...I'm sure you will get some great input there
How did you find it? Searches on Amazon US bring up nothing, for me. Browser or app. Not even the numbers Ryan posted.Looks like Amazon is $299 but it is NOT a preorder so that's the price plus applicable tax. This is more of an Alice Cooper welcome to my nightmare moment for me.
On the bright side, just ordered a Pink Floyd SACD 5.1 DSOTM, used, for $24.50.
It is a valid comparison, the TPT release puts to shame most of the big single album box sets. You're comparing a Pineapple Thief release to one of the greatest albums of all times?
